On the PlayStation 4, today, on 13.9., the release of update 4.00. After downloading, numerous new features are available to you. However, a specific launch time is not mentioned.
Update 11 AM: The update is now live, it can be downloaded and installed. The download size is just over 300 MB.
One exciting new feature is “High Dynamic Range”, short: HDR. All PS4 consoles will be equipped with this feature, not just the upcoming Slim and Pro versions. HDR enables the display of brightness and darkness with a wider color palette. What you see on an HDR-compatible TV is supposed to closely resemble what the human eye can see in the real world. Gaming becomes even more “vivid”.
New Features and Content of Update 4.00
Important new improvements on your PS4 are:
- Redesigned User Interface: New backgrounds, updated system icons, new pop-up notifications, and fresh drop-down menus. Navigation is intended to be simpler and clearer.
- Quick Menu: You don’t have to leave the game to access this menu. It only covers part of the screen. It can be customized. Here, there are shortcuts to frequently used settings and an expanded music section. You can control Spotify without having to leave the game.
- Folders and Library: With individual folders, you can organize your games and apps. You can edit, rename, move or remove contents in these folders at any time. This way, you keep track of your library. Additionally, there is a new search function to find contents more quickly.
- The News Section has been redesigned so that you can interact better with your buddies.
- The information about contents has been updated.
- Your Player Profile has a new look: It shows more relevant information about games, trophies, and communities. You can also redesign the profile with a cover image.
- Communities can have 100,000 members. You can reply to comments and share screenshots on the wall.
- Data Transfer to the New PS4: Using a wired LAN connection, you can transfer data from one PS4 to another. This includes games, user information, and saved data. While this can also be done through the cloud, a transfer via LAN is faster and easier.
- Moreover, two-step verification is referenced to make signing in to the PSN more secure.
Furthermore, there are numerous other innovations, such as a fresh trophy icon and the ability to view trophies while offline.
