The PS4 Neo has become the PS4 Pro! Here are the details about the PS4 Pro and the PS4 Slim from the PlayStation Meeting on September 7.
It wasn’t necessarily a big surprise: As speculated in advance, today at the PlayStation event in New York, the focus was on Sony’s two new consoles, about which several leaks had already appeared in recent days and weeks. Now the officials officially let the cat out of the bag.
The exciting information right from the start. Here are the release dates and prices:
- PS4 Pro: Launches on November 10, 2016 – Price: 399 Euros
- PS4 Slim: Launches on September 15, 2016 – Price 299 Euros
The PS4 Neo becomes the PS4 Pro
For months, it has been known that fans of Sony’s gaming consoles can expect a more powerful version of the PS4. The media wrote about a PS4 Neo or a PS4K, Sony itself referred to it as a “high-end PS4”, but now it’s official: The unit is called PS4 Pro.
According to Lead Architect Mark Cerny, the PlayStation 4 Pro will support a 4K resolution and deliver sharp images. It was also emphasized multiple times in the livestream that they are excited about HDR technology (High Dynamic Range), which also provides a more realistic representation and authentic colors. Reliable 60 FPS are attainable in games.
Additionally: The PS4 Pro provides 1 TB of storage space.
Future games will greatly benefit from the increased performance. EA has mentioned FIFA 17, Battlefield 1, and “Mass Effect Andromeda.” The same goes for “Watch Dogs 2,” “Horizon: Zero Dawn,” and “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.”
But even already released games will receive an update so that they can benefit from the PS4 Pro, such as “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End,” “InFamous Second Son,” and “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.” If you already own the games, there will be no additional costs for you.
PSVR is also expected to benefit from the PS4 Pro. For example, higher frame rates are possible to enhance immersion. It was also pointed out that a Netflix app and a YouTube app will be released, which can stream 4K content via the PS4 Pro.
Even if you play on a display with lower resolution, the new console should still be able to deliver the best possible performance. The games are expected to look “upgraded” even then.
