More and more users are reporting frame rate drops on various top games on the PS4 Pro. The titles sometimes run worse than on the PS4 Slim.
The recently released PS4 Pro is a more powerful console than the standard PS4 or the PS4 Slim. It is capable of running games more smoothly and in optimized graphic quality.
This is not always the case, as numerous users and the experts at Digital Foundry lament in a report. They criticize performance issues in some games on the Pro, which manifest as lower frame rates than on the standard PS4.
However, it should be noted that these disruptions occur only with some games that have “PS4 Pro” updates and only in certain situations. Nonetheless, such weaknesses should not occur on Sony’s Pro console – especially since they also appear in top titles.
Problems are reported to Sony
Not only smaller titles, such as Mantis Burn Racing, are affected. Even major Sony games, like The Last of Us Remastered, are on the list. One of the biggest titles in October, Skyrim: Special Edition, also suffers from the problems.
It seems that the enhancements from the Pro mode partially overwhelm the hardware. The problems occur in particularly demanding scenes. However, you usually do not have the option to run the game in “normal” mode, which means you cannot bypass the issues on the Pro.
At the end of the detailed report, which you can find in our sources, Digital Foundry shares that they reported their findings to Sony and received the following response from Sony: “We are aware of the issue and are currently investigating it.”

- Hitman
- Mantis Burn Racing
- Skyrim: Special Edition
- The Last of Us Remastered
- World of Final Fantasy
