Now that the Playstation 4 Pro is available, many gamers are wondering how the higher performance of the console affects Playstation VR.
The magazine VG247 made a direct comparison, which was not so easy. Because with Playstation VR games, it’s like with regular Playstation 4 games played on the PS4 Pro. Without an update, nothing changes. This means that currently only the games on the PS4 Pro benefit that have been appropriately adjusted through a patch.
Currently, the PS VR games are:
Battlezone
Bound
Driveclub VR
PlayStation VR Worlds
Rez Infinite
RIGS Mechanized Combat League
Rise of the Tomb Raider
The Playroom VR
Thumper
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
Games need to be adjusted
For other games, the patch is still missing. But even for the games that have received an update, the difference is not always immediately noticeable. It is up to the developer how to utilize the power of the PS4 Pro. This may result in a higher framerate for one game, while another game may see slightly better graphics. In most cases, load times are significantly shorter. The game Thumper is used as an example. This renders on the Playstation 4 Pro at a higher resolution. However, since the display of the Playstation VR cannot represent this, downsampling occurs, from which the visuals benefit even with the VR headset.
In the VR flagship game PlayStation VR Worlds, the difference can only be seen in the game menus, which are located in a dark room that now appears “sharper” with the PS4 Pro. The biggest visual enhancement is probably experienced in the minigame London Heist. Here the graphics are expected to show a visible improvement.
Playstation VR benefits from the PS4 Pro only to a relatively small extent. Some games run more smoothly, while others show slight visual improvements, and most load faster. The adjustments always depend on the respective game.
