The FBI is on the trail of a man who uses online gaming on PlayStation 4 and the PSN network to deal cocaine. A confidential source has informed the FBI: They are now requesting data from Sony.
Where did the information come from? The site Motherboard has obtained a search warrant containing this information.
A “confidential source” has given the FBI some details about a man known as “Dola” who arranges cocaine deals worth several thousand dollars through his PS4 in online games.
How does a drug deal go down?
What is Dola supposed to have done? He is said to have used the PlayStation 4, the chat system there, and voice chat from PS4 online games for dealing cocaine. Allegedly, he is currently charging $34,000 per kilogram.
The informant says he contacted Dola in April with “Bro, need a Bug” – that’s the code for “I need 9 grams of cocaine.”
The dealer then reached out to the informant via the audio chat of an online multiplayer game. Apparently, he thought this method of communication was secure.
A few days later, the dealer messaged the informant, “What’s the deal bro, you good” – which the FBI interprets as a question of whether the buyer has enough money.
The informant then replied, “Gucci.”
The court document details how the drug deal monitored by the FBI went down. 103.3 grams of cocaine were purchased. The FBI provided $4,400 for the deal, but there was still $550 in change.

Sony should hand over all information about the dealer and all his PS4 contacts
What does the FBI want from Sony? The FBI basically wants all the information that Sony has about the man. This includes:
- Stored copies of emails, chats, or other messages or drafts thereof
- Addresses associated with the person
- Date and time messages were sent
- The length and size of all files.
The FBI also wants records of the identity of all accounts such as residence, passwords, or phone numbers that are associated with the man.
At the moment, it is not known whether Sony has complied with the FBI’s request.
