Star Wars: Battlefront 2 had to endure quite a bit of criticism, not least because of the loot box issue. Nevertheless, it is a successful game – and the downloads back that up.
Although a petition wanted to revoke the Star Wars license from EA and it seemed due to the debates surrounding the loot boxes that the stars were not aligned well for Battlefront 2, the numbers tell a different story.
Sony’s data shows a strong December for EA’s title with high download numbers specifically in Europe. At the same time, Battlefront 2 was on sale, and the film The Last Jedi was released in theaters. All of this may have contributed to making Battlefront 2 the most successful download title in the EU for December on the PlayStation 4.
In Germany alone, Star Wars Battlefront II was sold 200,000 times on the PlayStation 4 and thus receives the BIU Sales Award in Platinum from the German gaming industry.
