What kind of sale is this? Sony has started a sale in the PlayStation Store with PS4 games under 20 Euros. This includes some well-known titles like A Way Out, but also smaller games like Overcooked 2, which are fun to play in coop mode. In our article, we introduce which games from the current sale in the PlayStation Store you should check out.
How long does the sale last? The sale in the PlayStation Store runs until December 1, 2020. So you still have almost 3 weeks to check out the offers.
A Way Out
Genre: Action-Adventure | Developer: Hazelight Studios | Release Date: March 23, 2018 | Model: Buy-to-play | Price Range (according to Geizhals): 13.59 – 29.99 €
What is A Way Out? A Way Out is an action-adventure that is played from a third-person perspective. The special feature of the game is that you always have to play together with a partner. There is no single-player mode. Players take control of Leo and Vincent – two convicted prisoners who must escape from prison.
Why is the game worth it? The game offers an exciting coop experience. The story of the game is told cohesively in time but asymmetrically: Each player always sees via split-screen what the other player is doing. The situation can change completely every time.
It’s also great that you only have to buy A Way Out once, even if two players are playing. This is due to the Friend Pass feature: This allows the buyer to invite a friend to play. The friend does not need to own the game – a pretty cool system.
Also, our author Max Handwerk played A Way Out and had a special coop experience.
This is less successful: A Way Out offers a strictly linear story. You will hardly make any decisions, and much of the game is predetermined. This limits the replay value. Also, the graphics are not exactly fresh anymore.

Overcooked 2

What is Overcooked 2? In Overcooked 2, you have to cook specific dishes from many ingredients within a given time. You can either play alone or with up to three other players. With part 2, Overcooked now also has an online coop mode.
Why is the game worth it? In gameplay, Overcooked 2 refines the formula of its predecessor, and it still is a lot of fun: Cooking together with friends (or against them), preparing recipes, and reacting to the level. Particularly cool is that Overcooked offers various kitchens: Sometimes you cook in a restaurant, other times in a hot air balloon. The levels are all creatively designed.
This is less successful: While the developer offers a rich array of levels, it hardly utilizes the potential. Crazy ideas like cooking in a hot air balloon are rare. Also annoying: the controls can sometimes be fiddly.

The Escapists 2 – Game of the Year Edition

What is The Escapists 2? This game is the sequel to the escape simulation The Escapists. Here, the goal is to cleverly escape from various prisons. You will be faced with various challenges. With part 2, there is also a coop mode for the first time.
Why is the game worth it? Besides the consistent old-school graphics and a good soundtrack, the game offers a variety of different prisons you can escape from. The prisons themselves consist of diverse areas, and you will be busy for many hours. A good tutorial helps you quickly find your way in the game.
This is less successful: The game offers no story like “A Way Out.” The tasks you have to complete in your prison daily life become repetitive over time and offer little variety. Also, the noise in the prison can become annoying over time.
For whom is the game suitable? If you enjoy escape scenarios or had fun with the predecessor, you will likely enjoy part 2 as well. The multitude of options for escaping from the prison will keep you occupied for a long time.

Rayman Legends

What is Rayman Legends? Rayman Legends is a platformer and is the sequel to Rayman Origins. You jump and fight through colorful fantasy levels to save the world from an evil force. In addition to boss levels, there are also completely new music levels.
Why is the game worth it: Rayman Legends offers a wealth of colorful and imaginative areas with a lot of variety:
- Sometimes you jump through a forest, other times you fight,
- you hop through a factory with underwater facilities to James Bond music
- or run through a desert where every step makes sounds or music.
The game also brings 40 old levels from Rayman Origins and has thus an enormous scope. In coop with friends, jumping and fighting through the levels is twice the fun. Once the game is completed, you can also try the extremely challenging additional challenges. As a bonus, there are also half a dozen unusual music levels that are quite demanding. In these, you have to jump and fight with the music.
This is less successful: While you can play different characters, they do not offer different abilities and seem more like skins. Moreover, the game relies on pure couch coop, and there is no online multiplayer.
For whom is the game suitable? If you are looking for a great couch coop title, you will find it in Rayman Legends. If you are “just” looking for a good platformer with a large scope, you should also take a look at the game.

Knack 2

What is Knack 2? Knack 2 is an action-adventure and the sequel to the first Knack game, which was released as a launch title for the PS4 in 2013. A focus is on the coop mode. The game combines action-packed battles with a platformer.
Why is the game worth it? Knack 2 offers a successful blend of action and platformer elements. The levels are designed differently and offer many opportunities to dismantle objects in your environment correctly. The battles flow smoothly, thanks to the combination of combos and dodging. In addition, the game offers a fun coop mode, and afterwards you can play through the “New Game Plus” mode.
This is less successful: The story is not excitingly told and offers few highlights. The camera control is fixed, which can be annoying in some levels. The protagonist is also quite bland in the second part. A few trial & error passages also tarnish the overall picture.
For whom is the game suitable? If you enjoy fun cooperative games or are looking for a nice game for in between, then take a look at Knack 2.

Lego Marvel’s Avengers

What is Lego Marvel’s Avengers? The game offers you scenarios from six Marvel movies in typical Lego style. The open game world is filled with many dynamic tasks, and you can unlock and play more than 200 characters. Like almost every Lego game, Avengers can also be played in coop on one console.
Why is the game worth it? Lego Marvel’s Avengers offers a good scope of more than 50 hours. This is due to the many contents that await you: These include
- a total of 8 game worlds,
- dynamic tasks in the open world
- lots of playable characters you can unlock.
All of this is paired with the typical Lego humor and the original soundtrack of the movies. The battles feel quick due to combo attacks, and the story sequences make players chuckle if they have seen the films.
This is less successful: Marvel’s Avengers also offers you only local coop, as there is no online mode. The puzzles and tasks are not very exciting, and there are hardly any interesting innovations compared to other Lego games.
