After the initial speculations at the end of 2021, it was leaked in February that Sony wants to redesign its subscription service PlayStation Plus.
Now it is official. Sony confirmed the end of the streaming service PS Now and will only offer PS Plus starting in June – but in 3 different service models.

“Game Pass” from Sony: Release and information about the new PS Plus
When does the “Game Pass” for PS5 come? There is no exact date yet. However, the service is coming in June. Possible is June 7 – the day when the new games from PS Plus will also go online,
What kind of service is this? It is a hybrid service comprising monthly free games, access to online multiplayer from PS4 and PS5, streaming offers, and downloadable games as part of the subscription.
What content does the service offer? That depends on which package you secure. The basic package is basically the current PS Plus offer. The more you pay for the package, the more service you get.
Included are:
- 2 games for free download per month
- Exclusive offers in the PS Store
- Cloud storage for your game saves
- Online multiplayer
- 400 games for download
- 340 games for streaming
- Game trials for some games
Many titles from PlayStation Studios are expected to be included among the games for download, but also games from third-party developers. The streamable games are more of the classics from PlayStation 1 – 3 and PSP games.
At launch, the following blockbusters on PS5 are expected to be available:
- Death Stranding
- God of War
- Marvel’s Spider-Man
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Returnal

What does the package include? Here you get all the bonuses of “Essential” plus around 400 games to play. These include blockbusters on PS4 and PS5 from PlayStation Studios, as well as third-party games. The games cannot be streamed, only downloaded.

What does the package include? With Premium, you get the extras of the other two packages plus access to around 340 additional games. Among them are classics from the PlayStation consoles 1 – 3 and PSP games can also be found. These “older” games can be streamed on PS4, PS5, and PC.
Additionally, there will be some games that offer a “Game Trial”. This way, you can try out some games beforehand that you might want to buy.

What happens to my current subscription with PS Plus? You will be switched to the “Essential” subscription as soon as the new service goes online.
What happens to my current subscription with PS Now? The brand is apparently disappearing completely. As a current subscriber, you will be switched to the new “Premium” subscription as soon as the restructuring of PS Plus is completed.
The former services of PS Now will then be completely integrated into the new PS Plus.
