With PS Plus (PlayStation Plus), the free games for July 2018 are now available for download for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. We provide a brief recommendation on the highlights for which player types the download is worthwhile.
PlayStation Plus monthly games: The new, free PS Plus games are officially revealed on the Wednesday before the first Tuesday of the new month. And they are available for download on the first Tuesday of the month. In July 2018, that is July 3rd.
These free games can be downloaded in July for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita:
Absolver (PS4)
What is Absolver about? In a successful mix of RPG, fighting game, and online brawler, you roam as a candidate of a combat school to explore the lost realm of Adal. On your journey, skill-based battles with a strong focus on character development await you. There is also a large world to explore. Throughout the game, you will develop your own unique style and find various weapons and armor.
How is it played? You venture into PvE or PvP, learn different fighting styles from corresponding masters or opponents, and create your own attack chains from them. The focus of the game clearly lies on fighting against other players.
You must take advantage of various fighting styles, counter opponents’ attacks at the right moment with suitable movements, and – if necessary – also change your position or your style. The focus lies primarily on proper timing and endurance management. The use of weapons such as swords or battle gloves is also possible.
You should check out Absolver if you want to test your combat skills against those of your friends or other players online. If you also enjoy complex combo mechanics and extensive character development, then Absolver is the perfect fighting game for you.
Heavy Rain (PS4)
What is Heavy Rain about? In an American metropolis, you follow the trail of a mysterious serial killer. You experience the story through the actions of four main characters, all of whom are connected in some way to the so-called “Origami Killer”.
Throughout the game, you must make difficult decisions, analyze the motives of the individual characters, and look for clues that will help to catch the serial killer and rescue a missing child.
How is it played? Heavy Rain plays like an interactive movie with action-adventure elements. The basic control of each character is done traditionally using the sticks of the gamepad. The further control of interactions is done through a context-sensitive menu consisting of the character’s current thoughts that can be individually selected.
Action sequences are represented by Quick-Time Events. Here, various symbols are presented to the player, requiring different actions.
You should check out Heavy Rain if you enjoy interactive movies and thrilling mysteries. Also, if you like other titles from Quantic Dream such as “Beyond: Two Souls” or “Detroit: Become Human”, then downloading this will definitely be worthwhile.

What are the free games for PS Plus?
