The new PS Plus subscription is online. The standard subscription transforms into “PS Plus Essential” and every regular member of PlayStation Plus lands in this new service. What happens with PS Plus? The subscription service from PlayStation is undergoing its biggest overhaul to date. The one-dimensional service is becoming a three-tier offering. Instead of just one service option, you can choose from three different levels:
- PS Plus Essential
- PS Plus Extra
- PS Plus Premium

When does PS Plus Essential come out? The service went live on June 23, 2022.
What does PS Plus Essential bring? Basically, you get the familiar base package here. The most important contents are access to online multiplayer and two free games as part of the subscription:
- 2 “free” PS4 games per month
- 1 “free” PS5 game per month
- Online multiplayer
- PS Plus Collection (only PS5)
- Game help (only PS5)
- Exclusive offers in the PS Store
- Cloud storage for your game saves
- Share Play
- Exclusive game content (free DLCs)
What changes compared to before? At the moment, it looks like only the name will change with the Essential subscription.
Initially, there was information from PlayStation that there would only be two monthly games in total. However, the PS Plus website now mentions three games: two for PS4 and one for PS5 (via playstation.com).

How much does PS Plus Essential cost? You don’t need to adjust to the costs either:
- 1 month: €8.99
- 3 months: €24.99
- 12 months: €59.99
Who gets into another PS Plus subscription? If you have subscribed to the streaming service “PS Now”, your remaining subscription time will convert into the “PS Plus Premium” subscription. This gives you a streaming package with classics from PS1, PS2, and PS3, as well as the contents of “PS Plus Extra” and some additional games on PS4 and PS5.
In the Extra package, you will find plenty of games for PS4 and PS5 in a sort of “Game Pass” that you can download at no additional cost.
