Sony has “big plans” for the new PS Plus this summer
Why are the numbers dropping? CEO Hikori Totoki explained that the declining numbers are not surprising. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many users stayed at home and spent time gaming. As a result, subscription numbers increased significantly:
The demand that stayed at home was a temporary factor, but now that it has subsided, it seems to me that the high level of engagement has been maintained.
Furthermore, Totoki stated that he is not overly worried about the decline in numbers for PS Plus. He is confident that the numbers will remain at a high level and that the transition to the new model will be exciting for many users.
Because “in the medium term, I see no major concerns for PS Plus. I am confident that the high level of engagement will continue. That is a positive attitude I have.”
Especially the transition should have a positive effect on the user numbers. He explains that Sony has “high expectations” for the renewal.
