In the lead-up to Gamescom 2018, a game with the working title “Project Mephisto” appeared on the list of nominated games for the Gamescom Award for PS4. Fans hoped for a Diablo announcement from Blizzard, perhaps even for Diablo 4. Nothing came of it. But what is hidden behind the project?
Nominated for Best Playstation 4 Game: If a previously unknown title appears on a list of nominees for the best Playstation 4 game, there must be something significant behind it.
Especially since Blizzard announced shortly before that they are planning “multiple announcements” for the beloved franchise Diablo.

The basic ingredients for the conspiracy theory? Mephisto is the first major evil in Diablo 2 that players encounter.
Since Mephisto was announced as a character in Heroes of the Storm around the same time, Project Mephisto can only be a major new project from Blizzard, right? OR?
One thing is for sure: No.
Project Mephisto now has an official name. The game hides behind “The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan.”
The Dark Pictures: New game from the Until Dawn creators
New horror adventure in the style of Until Dawn: As the developer Supermassive Games has now revealed, Project Mephisto is actually the horror anthology The Dark Pictures, which is set to be released in multiple parts starting in 2019.
It begins with Man of Medan, in which players find themselves on a ghost ship after a dive to wrecks from World War II. A storm is brewing, and the players must try to escape from the ghost ship.

You determine the fates of the individual protagonists: Just like in Until Dawn, you should have a significant influence on the characters in the first part of the anthology – Man of Medan – and decide who must meet their end and who does not.
The publisher of the game series is Bandai Namco. The series will be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. There is also a first announcement trailer:
Anyone who was hoping for a Diablo 4 announcement during Gamescom will be disappointed. However, the year is not over yet. Who knows what Blizzard will surprise us with at this year’s Blizzcon, which will take place from November 2 to November 4 in Anaheim, California.
What do you think? Are you disappointed? Or are you now pinning all your hopes on Blizzcon?
One thing is clear after Gamescom: You shouldn’t expect Diablo 3 on mobile.
