Hyper Scape, the new battle royale shooter from Ubisoft, has launched in open beta. But what advantages does the game have over competitors like Fortnite or Call of Duty: Warzone? Pro gamer and top streamer SypherPK explains.
What is Hyper Scape and what makes it special? Hyper Scape from Ubisoft aims to make its mark in the battle royale genre and recently launched into beta. 33 teams of three players compete in a constantly disintegrating virtual metropolis. In addition to weapons, there are so-called hacks. These are skills like building walls, planting bombs, or becoming invisible.
As major features, Hyper Scape offers full-fledged Twitch integration. You can directly engage with your viewers on Twitch, and the viewers can regularly trigger special events in the game. Suddenly, gravity might be reduced, or there could be infinite ammo for a short time.
What stands out the most is the extremely fast pace of Hyper Scape. The game is fast-paced and swift. You climb walls like a monkey, jump around with jump pads, and can even transform into a giant bouncing ball with a hack. Hyper Scape is truly not for fans of ‘cozy’ battle royale games like PUBG.
This is how Hyper Scape compares to Fortnite and Warzone
What are the comparison points? Popular streamer and pro gamer SypherPK (nearly 3.5 million followers on Twitch) discussed Hyper Scape in a podcast with other top players Nadeshot and CouRageJD. Since the other two participants had not yet played Hyper Scape, SypherPK introduced it to them and compared it with other battle royale games.
He focused on one aspect: How much action does the game provide during a match? But before we get to the resolution, let’s take a quick look at the other competitors in the survey, Fortnite and CoD: Warzone.
This is how Warzone plays
What is special about Warzone? Call of Duty: Warzone brings the refined gunplay of CoD into a large, free-to-play battle royale. Dropped over the abandoned area of the fictional city “Verdansk”, players flee from the radioactive gas and fight in 150-player battles for victory.
Warzone offers a relatively fast pace, as there are good chances that a fallen team member will rejoin the game – either by winning in the gulag or by buying back. In Warzone, you can start with 1 to 4 players, and there are always rotating modes that refresh gameplay or introduce new mechanics that change the whole gaming experience a little bit.
This is what SypherPK says about it: Until now, Sypher considered Warzone to be the fastest game that offered “nonstop action from start to finish.” Because opponents keep coming back and there’s always something in your sights, the game has been his favorite regarding action content. You jump into the fray with a pistol in hand and can start shooting right away.
This is how Fortnite plays
What is special about Fortnite? Fortnite is a free-to-play battle royale game from Epic Games. Fortnite primarily focuses on building structures with resources from the game world. With various movement items, the game often gets quite fast. However, you cannot climb or vault over obstacles.
This is what SypherPK says about it: For Sypher, Fortnite is the underdog in this comparison. He believes it offers the least action, and it’s possible to encounter only 10 players in a match. Therefore, he calls it “Resident Sleeper”. There is just too much downtime where nothing happens.
Conclusion: What makes Hyper Scape better than Warzone and Fortnite
This is how SypherPK rates Hyper Scape: For Sypher, Hyper Scape is the new Warzone. Because until now, the BR offshoot of Modern Warfare has been the game with nonstop action. However, in his opinion, Hyper Scape offers “real” action from start to finish.
This is mainly due to the insane pace that Hyper Scape showcases. There is always something happening, making the game even more action-packed than Warzone, which according to Sypher is “really hard to pull off”.
Sypher also states that Hyper Scape successfully transfers the pace and fun of a wild arena shooter into the battle royale genre. For Nadeshot, who has not played it yet, the pace of Hyper Scape is even down right “terrifying”.
This also speaks in favor of Hyper Scape: Reasons for this assessment are – even if Sypher does not mention it directly – the many skills that provide even more speed. Additionally, one can gladly climb onto roofs and balconies and dash around at breakneck speed. There is also a very liberal respawn option that allows dead players to roam around as ghosts and still support their team with reconnaissance.
When the team makes their own kills, they can revive the dead player at the location of the kill. This ensures that the player pool remains relatively constant in the mid- and late-game, providing enough cannon fodder.
Therefore, Hyper Scape is truly a game that speaks primarily to action fans and adrenaline junkies. What else speaks for Hyper Scape and why you should try it out, you can find in our article on reactions to the beta of Ubisoft’s new battle royale shooter.
