Currently, a double XP event is running in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which many players have been looking forward to. However, many players are complaining about significant issues with the experience points. This is causing frustration.
What is the double XP event about? Currently, Season 4 is in full swing in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and CoD Warzone. Just recently, a major mid-season update was released, bringing new content such as the new AMR sniper and a new multiplayer map into the game.
Additionally, one of the most popular playlists in the game has been running since the evening of July 2nd, alongside this, a double XP event is now also happening. Many players wanted to take advantage of this to level up weapons, boost their rank, or complete some tiers in the Battle Pass.
Despite double XP – Frustration prevails for many: Especially in the USA, many were looking forward to the double XP over the weekend. Because there, due to Independence Day celebrations on July 4th, many have a long weekend ahead.
However, so far the double XP event has caused more frustration than joy for many players. Because there are apparently issues and inconsistencies with the XP. There are numerous threads on Reddit where players express their discontent. The most prominent one has already received over 18,000 upvotes and more than 1,300 comments after just about 20 hours.
What exactly are players complaining about? Many complained right after the event started that they felt they were not making as much progress as they usually do on double XP weekends – especially regarding weapon levels and Battle Pass ranks.
Then some players investigated further and found: The XP seems to have been halved (likely unintentionally), and with the double XP modifier, you get as much as you would in regular gameplay.
The interesting thing: while some can substantiate their displeasure with specific numbers and comparisons, it seems that many, but not all players are affected by these issues or only encounter inconsistencies in some areas.
- Some say that when it comes to weapon XP, they are making good progress and really getting double the amount, while they are stuck on Battle Pass tiers and vice versa.
- Others say that they are overtaking their friends in Battle Pass ranks but are oddly lagging behind in seasonal player level.
- Some also report that they receive only regular experience points in some rounds and disproportionately high amounts in others, leading to an impression that the extra XP not credited earlier is being given later in bursts.
- And some point out that such events have been having issues with XP distribution for some time.
Meanwhile (since the early morning of July 4th according to German time), some players are reporting that things have normalized for them, meaning they are now receiving the correct amount of XP and that the problem seems to have been fixed. However, there are still players for whom things do not appear to be working smoothly.
In summary: The double XP event, which many were looking forward to, appears to be causing problems for many players, although not all, and shows considerable inconsistencies. Infinity Ward has not yet publicly commented on this.
