As a multiplayer game, Fallout 76 operates on various servers where players can play with others. An option to rent private servers is planned, but you will have to wait.
Private servers are coming: The Game Director of Fallout 76, Todd Howard, confirmed in a Q&A at Quakecon 2018 that Fallout 76 will receive private servers. It will definitely happen, just not right now.
Fallout 76 “Rent Server” Feature Coming Later
When can I rent a server? Fallout fans will have to wait until the end of 2019 before they can rent private servers for Fallout 76. However, a specific date has not yet been mentioned by Bethesda.
Private servers are servers that run separately from the official servers. They are managed by the renters, who are usually players themselves, and can be password protected or have special rules and settings.
How do I rent a private server? Currently, there is no information on what private servers for Fallout 76 will look like. However, if Bethesda follows the model of other survival games, renting will be quite simple.
You will likely not rent private servers directly from Bethesda, but from providers like Nitrado or G-Portal. The providers offer servers at various prices that you can then set up and manage on your own. Once we know more, we will provide you with the information at MeinMMO.
Why rent private servers? When Fallout 76 was announced, the question of private servers quickly arose. Since the early release of Fallout 76 on November 13, more and more players have been asking about it. Three reasons drive this:
- Mods: Players want to modify Fallout 76 similarly to the predecessors. This is only possible on private servers.
- Playing with friends: Especially streamers want “community servers” where they can play with “their people” without being disturbed.
- Solo play: In Fallout 76, there is constant PvP; that cannot be turned off. Some fans prefer to play Fallout 76 alone on private servers for this reason.
Currently, many fans say this keeps some people from playing. They want a Fallout experience according to their vision and do not want to share their world with other players who might disturb them, even if Bethesda is strict against troublemakers.
Playing Solo Even Without Private Servers
Since Fallout has become known as a single-player series, many fans prefer to experience Fallout 76 alone as well. By default, there is no solo mode for Fallout 76 and none is planned.
However, you can also play Fallout 76 well solo online. All players on your current server are continuously visible on the map, allowing you to avoid them if they disturb you.
Players who impose PvP on others will also face harsh penalties. However, as long as you do not participate in PvP activities yourself, you will receive much less damage from players anyway. A story tells a narrative in Fallout 76 even without human NPCs. So there is nothing standing in the way of a solo adventure.
