A German player of League of Legends, Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, was forced to end his career in 2023. After nine years in professional esports, he had not found a team that wanted him and for which he could play. After four years in the USA, he returned home and became a streamer. But everything is different in 2024. He finishes the current LoL season as the MVP of the European Championship finals.
How did PowerOfEvil’s career go?
- PowerOfEvil had one of the most successful careers that a German player in LoL could boast of until 2023. He was a migrant bird, playing for eight teams in eight years, and never stayed anywhere for more than a year.
- From 2014 to 2018, he played for major teams in Europe like the Unicorns of Love, Origen, and Misfits Gaming. With Misfits, he even qualified for the World Championship and had a heated duel in the quarter-finals against T1 and Faker that went to the 5th round. 2017 was the year when Faker narrowly missed his 4th World title.
- In 2018, PowerOfEvil moved to the USA, where he rose to become one of the best mid-laners. He played for CLG, FlyQuest, and even the big TSM.
Professional finds no new team after 9 years
This was the turning point: However, in 2022, PowerOfEvil’s professional career seemed to be over. The year before, he had played in the USA for the “Immortals,” one of the weakest teams in the league.
Now he had reached a point in his career where attractive offers were absent, as he explained himself in November 2022 on Twitter: For the first time since 2014, he would not be playing competitively. He had not received an offer from any team.
The plan was now that he would return to Germany, become a streamer there, and collaborate with HandOfBlood at Eintracht Spandau.
“Tristan Schrage is only coming because of me – I’ve been after him for 2 years!”
This was the turnaround: In the meantime, HandOfBlood had built up the LoL team Eintracht Spandau, but it wasn’t going well. They lost the important matches time after time.
For 2024, this was supposed to change, and apparently, PowerOfEvil was an important part of the new plans. After a year as a content creator, Eintracht Spandau advertised PowerOfEvil as a major signing and central figure in the squad of the talent-laden team.
PowerOfEvil’s signing was celebrated in Spandau with fun and even confused the international LoL scene:
PowerOfEvil wins the double and becomes the finals MVP
This is how it went now: With PowerOfEvil in the mid lane, Eintracht Spandau was able to win the German Championship for the first time and even win the European Championship at the EMEA Masters .
The significant contribution of PowerOfEvil to the success is evident in the bare numbers: In the finals of the EMEA Masters alone, the experienced LoL pro was able to get 24 kills, in the decisive match 4, he played flawlessly with 7-0-10 on Orianna.
He was voted MVP of the finals.
Moreover, the cheekily smiling 26-year-old is an ideal anchor figure for the social media hype that Eintracht Spandau likes to create.
In 2021, when Eintracht Spandau was founded, many fans wished that they would snap up PowerOfEvil. He had just completed a year with TSM, the industry giant in the USA, and seemed far away.
When Eintracht Spandau secured his services for 2024, one could already sense that the year would be different for the German team compared to the last two – but that it would be so good was probably unexpected for almost everyone.
We are curious to see if the eternal migrant bird, who never stays longer than a year, will make an exception and play for Eintracht Spandau in 2025.
