The Twitch streamer Tony “RSGloryAndGold” Winchester passed away on October 12 from a brain tumor. On his channel, the 69-year-old only displayed one game: RuneScape. There, he built a community and constantly informed them about his condition.
Who was RSGloryAndGold? In December 2015, Tony Winchester started streaming on Twitch. He showcased primarily the MMORPG RuneScape and gathered over 350,000 followers. His shout “YAHOOOOOOOOOOO” was particularly well-known among his fans.
While he was online almost daily for many years, the livestreams became significantly less frequent in the last few months. The reason was a brain tumor, against which he fought for months with cancer treatment.
On September 29, 2022, he appeared live for the last time. There, the streamer celebrated his 69th birthday. On October 14, a post was shared by his son on RSGloryAndGold’s Twitter account: Tony Winchester died on October 12, without pain and in the presence of family, as his son revealed.
Streamer engaged his audience and they thanked him
How did the streamer say goodbye to his fans? Very emotionally. The streamer regularly published videos on YouTube with current information about his health status. In videos like “Fighting Cancer For One Week,” you see him going to therapies and how exhausting and taxing they are for him.
However, he repeatedly emphasized that streaming was the happiest thing for him and he wanted to experience it as much as possible.
During his birthday livestream, there was also an incident where he fell off the couch and couldn’t get up by himself. He called for help, and they lifted him back onto the couch. He took the incident with humor and even shared it as a separate video on YouTube.
On October 9, 2022, he then published a video titled “Prepayment for My Funeral.” In it, he lies pale and weakened in a bed and says: “I’m going to die.”
Through Gofundme, the streamer collected money for his treatment costs and his funeral since June. In the video, he thanked for the support. The community donated a total of 41,146 of the hoped-for 50,000 US dollars (via Gofundme).
RuneScape community and Twitch streamers express their condolences
How did the RuneScape community react to the death? Very devastated. The news of the death received over 95,000 likes and was retweeted nearly 7,000 times. Under the tweet, viewers thank him for the many hours he entertained them.
Notable personalities, such as Twitch streamer Crayator or Ethan Klein, host of the H3H3 podcast, also commented.
