The Shōnen manga Kagurabachi had a rocket start. Some anime fans posted numerous memes when the manga had just released a few chapters. After the manga broke several personal records, it is now following what is probably the biggest success for the story.
What milestones has Kagurabachi already achieved? Kagurabachi is published by the same publisher responsible for the release of One Piece, Dragon Ball Super, and Boruto. In the early phase of its release, Kagurabachi was already popular among many fans:
- With only six chapters, the manga became a cult meme. This seemingly helped the manga gain some interest: On the official website of the publisher, the anime was read more frequently than Dragon Ball and Jujutsu Kaisen.
- The subsequent chapters were able to meet the expectations of manga readers. The first issue of the manga had to be reprinted multiple times as the sales exceeded the publisher’s expectations.
- Recently, the manga was even recommended by Masashi Kishimoto, the mangaka of Naruto. This proves that Kagurabachi has good quality.
The manga has celebrated several milestones since its release. Therefore, it is hardly surprising what the responsible Shueisha publisher has now decided to do.

What’s next? As AnimeTsumi reports on X, Shueisha has filed a trademark for Kagurabachi to use it in “animation productions” and “recorded media and video files that contain animated content”. The trademark was filed at the end of 2023 (via Chizai Watch).
As the X user reports, this process is the standard procedure for anime. Other series like Oshi no Ko, Kaiju No. 8, and others have gone through this process as well.
When could the anime be released? For comparable series like Sakamoto Days and Dandadan, it took about three to four years from the filing to the release of the anime. For Kaiju No.8, another very good anime, it also took four years.
Therefore, we expect to see Kagurabachi only in the year 2028. The anime may not even be in production at this time. Thus, it may take some time before we can watch the anime.
Thus, Kagurabachi could fill the gap left by Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia, two other representatives of the Shōnen genre. Demon Slayer will not get a 5th season, instead, there will be three separate movies.
The last manga chapter of My Hero Academia will be released on August 5, 2024 (via ComicBook). Accordingly, the anime will also end in the coming months or years.
