The popular streamer Voyboy has been banned on Twitch. The reason and duration are still unknown to the LoL streamer. Meanwhile, his fans and friends wonder what could be behind it.
Update from 11/10/2020: In the meantime, it seems the ban on Voyboy has been lifted.
Who is it about? Joedat “Voyboy” Esfahani is a former pro player who made a career in League of Legends. He is now a successful streamer and until recently followed his passion for LoL in streams.
Additionally, Voyboy became known when he drew attention to the misconduct of the streamer Hashinshin with a widely seen post in July 2020. Hashinshin was accused of pedophilia, and Voyboy affirmed these allegations, which ultimately led to Hashinshin’s ban. However, these allegations could not be proven.
What did he do? But now it seems Voyboy himself has been caught. Shortly after a LoL stream, he was apparently banned by Twitch. Reasons or the length of the ban were not initially given by the Amazon streaming platform.
Since Voyboy has stated that he has not done anything wrong recently, there was a quick response on Twitter, where various users showed solidarity with him.
Christian Aranda writes that Voyboy is one of the nicest guys on Twitch and he does not understand why he was banned.
LoL caster Clayton Raines also can’t believe it and writes on Twitter that Twitch seems to want to troll Voyboy.
In the meantime, there has been an update from Voyboy regarding the matter.
Copyright issues behind the ban
What’s the issue with the copyright problems? In an update, Voyboy revealed what might be behind the ban. As suspected earlier, it was likely a copyright complaint from the music industry that led to the ban.
Thus, Voyboy is the latest victim of a development that is currently concerning the streaming scene. Many streamers have incorporated music into their streams, which recently led to the first threats from the music industry. This involves copyrighted material, and streamers should not have used it without permission.
As a result, many streamers deleted large parts of their clip libraries. This is equivalent to losing their life’s work for many. However, the streamers’ concerns seem justified, as demonstrated by the case of Voyboy and other affected streamers, as they may indeed face a Twitch ban in these instances.
However, Voyboy hopes that he can quickly resolve the issue and return to Twitch. A ban can even happen if one no longer has the clips online on Twitch. The notorious German streamer Papaplatte was banned for the 7th time in 2020. The latest action was also a consequence of a copyright violation.
