In Fortnite, there are various skins that can be purchased. In Brazil, poor Fortnite players are discriminated against because they cannot afford special outfits. An initiative by Samsung aims to change that: they want to provide “Defaults” or “No-Skins” with a special outfit.
What happened? There are many players in Brazil who cannot afford skins. These “No-Skins” are therefore discriminated against and excluded in schools or in the game.
However, an initiative between Samsung and Fortnite is set to change that. There is now a way for these poor players to own a skin.
Players without skins are discriminated against
Why are these players excluded? In the world of video games, one is considered a noob (bad, inexperienced player) if they do not own a skin or outfit.
Often the terms “Default” or “No-Skin” are used to mock these players.
Players without skins are often hunted because people believe they are bad players and thus easy targets.
This can also be misleading. The Twitch streamer and pro Tfue went a long time without purchasing skins and presented himself as a “Default”. This became his trademark. The players who thought he was a noob were surprised when suddenly one of the best players in the world stood before them.
Samsung’s initiative aims to end discrimination
What is this initiative? Samsung has contacted several Brazilian streamers. They want to motivate the streamers to give away a skin to their viewers and encourage other players who own the skin to do the same.
What skin do you receive? This skin is the Glow Skin, which was given a few months ago with a new or existing Samsung phone.
Now Samsung wants players who already own the Glow Skin to donate this skin or offer it in giveaways.
The players who receive the Glow Skin are to be given the opportunity to own a skin. It should help those players who otherwise cannot afford skins.
What do you think of this initiative from Samsung? Are they doing the right thing?
