The MOBA Pokémon Unite brings the long-awaited fighter Blastoise into the game. The trailer gives a small insight into Blastoise’s moveset.

What is it about? After the community was outraged over the Heiteira release before Blastoise, they can now be happy, as Blastoise was officially announced on September 1 with a trailer:
These attacks are used by Blastoise
What can Blastoise do? In the trailer itself, you can catch glimpses of some of the Pokémon’s attacks. Previously, Blastoise’s moveset was leaked when closed beta gameplay of Blastoise was released (DKay Gaming via YouTube). The following attacks can be used by the defender at the start:
- Water Gun:
- Pushes opponents away and decreases their movement speed
- Skull Bash:
- Charges into an opponent and makes them immobile for a short time
When Blastoise reaches level 5, you can choose between the following attacks that replace Water Gun:
- Hydro Pump:
- Attacks the opposing Pokémon with a huge amount of water and knocks them back
- The opponent is immobilized during the effect duration
- Upgrade: Damage of the attack is increased
- Water Spout:
- Creates a field where water droplets fall on the opponent, dealing damage
- Reduces the opponent’s movement speed in this field
- Upgrade: Damage of the attack is increased
When Blastoise reaches level 7, you can choose between the following attacks that replace Skull Bash:
- Rapid Spin:
- Blastoise spins around its axis and can be freely controlled
- It can use basic attacks and Hydro Pump/Water Spout that shoot from its shell
- Upgrade: Reduces the damage Blastoise receives during the effect duration
- Surf:
- Pushes opponents away and makes them immobile for a short time
- Blastoise is immune to obstacles while using Surf
- Can jump in a specific direction at the end
- Upgrade: Blastoise gains a shield when the attack hits
Additional abilities of Blastoise:
- Unite Move:
- Blastoise spins quickly around its axis and damages opponents with a water beam within a fixed range, briefly immobilizing them and giving Blastoise a shield
- Passive ability, Torrent:
- When Blastoise has only half of its hit points left, its physical and special attack values are increased
What could this bring? If Rapid Spin could go through all attacks, Blastoise would be able to effectively face opponents like Alolan Ninetails or Wigglytuff. These two Pokémon fight with attacks that can briefly immobilize opponents or normally knock them back. If Blastoise can break through this, it would be a valuable addition to any team.
Hydro Pump and Water Spout both seem like good attacks to annoy the opponent. Both hinder them from fleeing quickly and can enable the team partner or Blastoise itself to secure the necessary kill. Which one will prevail in the meta remains to be seen. When Heiteira joined and Wigglytuff received its buff, the meta was significantly shaken up. Let’s see if Blastoise can do the same.
