In March, the new expansion for the trading card game Pokémon will be released. MeinMMO is allowed to exclusively reveal 2 of the new cards and shows you the preview cards.
What kind of expansion is this? The new expansion “Scarlet & Violet – Partners” will be released on March 28, 2025. The highlight of the expansion is the so-called Trainer Pokémon, where monsters are shown in connection with their iconic trainers.
The four trainer cards will be Hops Zacian-ex, Enigmaras Wampitz-ex, Ns Zoroark-ex, and Lillys Piepi-ex. However, there are many other cards that will be introduced.
This also includes two new cards for the legendary Ice Bird Pokémon Articuno from the first generation. And we will introduce them to you here.
Articuno’s new cards in Scarlet & Violet – Partners
This is the new Articuno card: Articuno comes into play as a Water-type card. It has 110 HP, is resistant to Fighting attacks (30 damage less), but vulnerable to Electric attacks (double damage). Its retreat cost is only one energy.
This is what the two new cards look like:

Articuno has two attacks in tow: Frosty Flap and Ice Blaster.
- Frosty Flap does not deal damage, but allows you to search your deck for two Water energies, which you then attach to Articuno. The cost is one colorless energy.
- Ice Blaster costs one colorless and 2 Water energies but deals 110 damage.
With Frosty Flap, Articuno quickly gets the energies it needs for Ice Blaster. This way, you can unleash a powerful attack after just two rounds that hits your opponent hard. Since Articuno is a Basic Pokémon, you do not need any evolutions.
When will the new cards be available? The two Articuno cards will be released along with the expansion “Scarlet & Violet – Partners” on March 28, 2025.
More about the trading card game: The Pokémon trading card game has been very popular among players and collectors for many years. Especially in recent years, there has been a resurgence that brought the game back into focus. This attention often leads to nice, but sometimes unfortunate experiences.
A positive experience was just had by a boy who received an entire collection of rare cards as a gift. Read more about it here. On the other hand, there are also stories where the hype around Pokémon cards caused trouble. For example, there was an incident where a museum distributed a rare promo card – but greedy collectors ruined the event and the museum had to stop it.
Overall, trading cards are primarily meant to provide fun – whether collecting, trading, or playing. What experiences have you had with the card game? Do you know them from the past, do you still collect them today? Share your stories in the comments! And if you want to play the card game on your phone: Pokémon TCG Pocket is an option to get a first impression of the game and collect the cards digitally.
