In Pokémon TCG Pocket, the Darkrai ex deck is considered one of the best new decks. MeinMMO shows you how to build and combine it.
What makes Darkrai-ex so good? With the expansion Collision of Space and Time, Darkrai has also made its way into Pokémon TCG Pocket; once as a normal card and as an ex variant. The advantage of the ex card: For each energy attached to the card, 20 damage points are dealt to the active opposing card.
With its attack “Dark Prism”, Darkrai deals 80 damage points, which comes to a total of 100 damage points with each energy attached. In a tournament of two YouTubers, the Darkrai-ex deck made it into the Top 8 of winners 7 times.

Darkrai-ex & Magnezone Deck

- 2x Magnetilo
- 2x Magneton
- 2x Magnezone
- 2x Shardrago
- 2x Professor’s Research
- 2x Leaf
- 2x Pokéball
- 1x Cyrus
- 1x Pokémon Communication
- 1x Bump Cap
- 1x Giant Robe
How is the deck played? Darkrai-ex with Magnezone has developed into an almost unbeatable deck. Even though Magnezone requires electric energy, you can play it in conjunction with Darkrai-ex and let the deck generate only dark energy.
Magneton can create and attach electric energy once per turn through its ability, allowing you to charge the card until you evolve it into Magnezone and attack with it. At the same time, you also charge Darkrai-ex with energy, causing 20 damage per turn.
Meanwhile, you have Shardrago in the active position, where it initially absorbs the opposing attacks as a tank. Through its ability Rough Skin, it also deals damage.
The likelihood is high that through the passive abilities of Shardrago and Darkrai-ex, you can already take out an opposing Pokémon. The rest can be taken care of with the active attacks of Magnezone and Darkrai-ex.
Darkrai-ex & Snibunna-ex
- 2x Darkrai-ex
- 2x Sniebel
- 2x Snibunna-ex
- 2x Kryppuk
- 2x Pokémon Communication
- 2x Cyrus
- 2x Lucia
- 2x X-Initiative
- 2x Pokéball
- 2x Professor’s Research
How is the deck played? While you supply Darkrai-ex on the bench with energies, dealing passive damage and thus making it ready for battle, Snibunna-ex can almost immediately jump into the fight. With just one energy, the evolution from Sniebel can deal up to 70 damage points.
Darkrai-ex & Smogmog
- 2x Darkrai-ex
- 2x Smogon
- 2x Smogmog
- 1x Kryppuk
- 1x Potion
- 2x Cyrus
- 2x Leaf
- 2x Koga
- 2x Pokéball
- 2x Professor’s Research
- 2x Giant Robe
How is the deck played? While you supply Darkrai-ex on the bench with energy, you only need to spend one energy for Smogon or Smogmog to use it in the active position as an early attacker.
Once you have prepared Darkrai-ex sufficiently, you can retrieve Smogmog with Koga without retreat costs and bring Darkrai-ex into the active position.
In this combination, you can deal up to 110 damage per turn:
- 80 damage points from Darkrai-ex attack
- 20 damage points from Darkrai-ex ability when you attach additional energies
- 10 damage points when using Smogmog’s ability Gas Leak
Darkrai-ex & Smogmog & Arbok
If you want to use fewer supporter and item cards, we recommend replacing some with Arbok:
- 2x Darkrai-ex
- 2x Smogon
- 2x Smogmog
- 2x Rettan
- 2x Arbok
- 2x Leaf
- 2x Koga
- 2x Pokéball
- 2x Professor’s Research
- 2x Giant Robe
How is the deck played? The basic strategy of the deck remains the same even with Arbok. However, you can deal even more damage through Arbok before bringing Darkrai-ex into the active position.
The advantage of Arbok: The opposing Pokémon cannot retreat due to pressure until it is defeated.
