The expansion is set to be released on January 30, 2025. Also good to know: The trading feature will come on January 28, 2025. You can watch the trailer further below.
Original report:
Which Pokémon are expected to come in the next set? As the leaker indicates, it will not continue with the second generation after the first. Instead, the development team is making a leap to the 4th generation, which appeared in the video games Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
The next set is said to consist of 2 different boosters. So far, there have been 3 boosters with Mewtu, Glurak, and Pikachu in “Unbeatable Genes” and just one with Mew in “Mysterious Island.” The new stars of the next set are expected to be Dialga and Palkia, the legendary Pokémon from Gen 4.
Based on the number of cards from previous boosters, it is possible that around 170 cards will be introduced with the next set. That would be enough cards to depict all Pokémon from the 4th generation.

When is the next set expected to come? According to leaks, the next set is supposed to be released on January 30, 2025. Therefore, there will probably be an announcement for the new set in the coming days if the information is true.
Why Gen 4? The 4th generation was one of the most popular. In many surveys like here on Reddit, it ranks among the top spots. Additionally, there was a remake of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo Switch, which is why many new players can also relate to the Pokémon from this generation.
Therefore, the development team might have decided to skip the 2nd and 3rd generations.
How trustworthy is this information? The leak comes from X-user eb576dcfe aka “Not a Leaker.” He has previously shared information in advance multiple times before they became official. For instance, he predicted that the trading feature only goes up to a rarity of one star.
Therefore, we can expect that his new leak is also highly likely to be accurate. However, we cannot say with 100% certainty that his information is true. It could still be that the development team has internally decided to release a different generation next.
Full certainty will only come when The Pokémon Company unveils a trailer for the upcoming set.
