In Pokémon TCG Pocket since December 17, 2024, there is a new booster pack Mystical Island, which brings some new strong cards. One card has already proven to be a standout, but it’s not Mew as players initially suspected.
What did the players expect? When the new booster pack was announced, most players were looking forward to Mew’s ex-card. Mew-ex can be included in any deck because its strongest attack requires three colorless energies.
Moreover, it can counter strong ex-cards with that very attack, as it can use the opponent’s attacks as its own.

Celebi-ex is the new star in Pokémon TCG Pocket
What kind of card is this? It is the ex-card Celebi. It has come with the new booster pack Mystical Island and has proven to be one of the strongest cards.
What makes the card so special? Celebi-ex does not need to evolve and only requires two energies to attack. This is relatively low compared to other ex-cards. For example, a Charizard-ex requires three energies to attack and four to use its stronger attack.
However, the greatest strength is Celebi’s attack itself: With two energies, the attack does a base damage of 50 points.
For each additional energy, a coin can be tossed. Each coin that lands on heads adds an additional 50 damage points. Celebi can therefore be quick and strong and becomes stronger with each round, with each additional energy.
How are players reacting to Celebi-ex? Players recognize the new card as strong in the subreddit r/PTCGP:
- GKz_Mk3 says (via reddit): “Celebi-ex with Serpiroyal will clearly be a top-tier deck.”
- NoSleepGoblin has already encountered Celebi in battle (via reddit): “I have already faced one of these decks and… my only regret is that I probably won’t be able to build it myself, lol.”
- Player DarkAplex refers to the Celebi-ex card as the “new Misty card” (via reddit).
