In Pokémon TCG Pocket, a new booster pack is on the horizon. Unfortunately, a currency you have collected so far will not help you with this.
On December 17, 2024, the next booster series titled “Mythical Island” will be released in Pokémon TCG Pocket. This series brings a total of 80 new cards to the game, which you can collect from the release date.
While there has only been one booster series in the game so far, this marks the release of the 2nd booster series. Although many players may be excited, there is already a limitation that may somewhat diminish this excitement.
New Pack, New Pack Points
What is this limitation? When you open booster packs, you receive 5 so-called pack points for each opened pack. You can exchange these for cards from the corresponding booster series, thereby obtaining the cards that you cannot get by drawing cards.
In the past, it has already been announced that pack points have an expiration date and can only be used for the corresponding cards of a booster series as long as that series is available in the game.
Although the new booster series Mythical Island is just a small expansion (code A1a) and not a large new series (which would carry the code A2), you still cannot use your existing pack points for cards from the new expansion.
These points can only be exchanged for cards from the previous booster series, Unbeatable Genes. Therefore, you will need to collect new pack points for the new booster series if you want to trade them for cards.
A corresponding note can be found on pokemon-support.com. It states:
“When you open booster packs of a specific expansion, you receive pack points for that expansion. These points can only be exchanged for cards included in that expansion. Expansions are card sets marked with a single code. The expansion code (e.g., A1, A1a, and A2) indicates which cards belong to which booster packs.”
A card from the new booster series seems to be highly anticipated by many players already. This is because it has a powerful attack that could effectively counter some of the currently strongest cards in the game: Mew ex will be your counter against the strongest cards in the game.
