Not filling your friends list with whales
The friends list allows you to track the game progress of your friends. If you had an exciting match, you could also befriend strangers. This has the advantage that you can also see your friends’ boosters during wonder trades. This way, you get a random card from the pack.
If you have people on your friends list who invest a lot of money in the game, it can be to your advantage. This way, you have a better chance of obtaining rarer cards through wonder trades. The more money they invest in packs, the more often they will appear in your wonder trades.
Creating your profile too early
Right at the start of Pokémon TCG Pocket, you receive so many pack hourglasses that you can open many boosters. If you are not satisfied with the cards, there is the option to restart and create a new account as many times as you want until you are satisfied with the initial haul.
Once you are satisfied, you should link your game progress to your Nintendo account (or whatever else you prefer). This way, your progress in Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be lost if your smartphone breaks down.
Ignoring the base normal cards
When creating the best decks, many players rely on EX cards or strong evolutions that go beyond 2 or 3 stages. However, you should not forget the normal cards, which only have one evolution stage. If you face a deck that is effective against your own, or just want to buy some time for a better hand, normal cards could be your savior.
Pokémon like Kangaskhan or Porygon, for instance, only require one resource not assigned to any specific element. With that one resource, they deal decent damage that can turn the match in your favor in an emergency. So make sure to have one or two base normal cards in your deck.
Not showcasing your Pokémon cards to the public
Under the “My Cards” menu, you can not only view your collection and create decks. There is also the option to create albums and galleries that can be visible to the public. And you should definitely make use of this.
With albums and galleries, you can receive likes from your friends. This is possible up to 5 times a day. If you receive a like, you simultaneously get a shop ticket. You can then spend this on hourglasses or item cards.
