Pokémon TCG Pocket: Here’s how to build a good deck
With the following tips, you should be able to put together a good deck, no matter which element you use for the deck. If you don’t intend to invest time in building your own deck, we will show you how to quickly get your own deck.
Balanced deck of Pokémon and Trainer cards
A deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket consists of 20 cards. When assembling the deck, you should pay attention to having a balanced mix of supporters, items, and Pokémon in the deck. In general, it is advisable to mix about 12 Pokémon and 8 Trainer cards in the deck.
However, if you are assembling a deck that relies on the strength of Pokémon that do not have a stage of evolution, you should mix in fewer Pokémon cards. This increases the chance of drawing the desired Pokémon faster. Examples include Articuno-ex and Pikachu-ex.
Include important cards twice in the deck
In many tier lists, you will see that many of the Trainer cards are included twice in the deck. This is because they have a strong effect, and this way, you increase the chance of getting to them faster. So include important cards twice in your deck.
Professor Oak is a card that should be included in every deck in duplicate. He allows you to draw two additional cards, further increasing your chances of getting to the cards you want.
Use Pokémon with certain effects
The Trainer cards each have certain effects that are helpful in battle. Some Pokémon also have abilities or effects that trigger their attacks. Make sure to read what your Pokémon can do and arrange them so that they complement each other. The abilities of Arbok and Pidgeot, for example, complement each other so well that one can determine which opposing Pokémon remains active in battle.
Another example: Gardevoir has the Psyshadow ability. This allows one Psychic Energy to be attached to the active Pokémon once per turn, in addition to the energy you would draw anyway. This allows Mewtwo-ex to get its required energy faster, enabling it to activate its Psychic Drive. Thanks to Gardevoir, it can even do this every turn, and not just every other turn as usual.
