A player takes the Redstone madness of Minecraft to the next level: he recreates the entire “Pokemon: Red” version in the block world.
When pixel world meets pixel world
Ah, Minecraft. A world where everything could be so simple, as it consists only of blocks. The most complex thing in this child-friendly world are actually the various Redstone systems that one can use to build circuits to create automatic doors or operate other simple machines. However, what one can really do with the system is now being demonstrated by the YouTuber MrSquishyYT, who has been recreating other games completely in Minecraft for a while.
A while ago he recreated Pacman, and now he is feverishly working on his next project: the old “Pokemon Red” edition for the GameBoy. So far, the hero (“Red”) can already move freely in the game world, random battles can be triggered, and the menus are already available. The NPCs, however, still need a lot of work:
“The game still doesn’t know that anyone other than the player exists. Adding NPCs will require many new systems, such as merchants, battles against trainers, events, and the ability to interact with other objects in the world.”
A first impression of this can already be gained from this image. Anyone who thinks this is a fake should be told: The “pixels” on the “GameBoy’s” screen are wool blocks in various shades of gray.
MrSquishyYT, by the way, does not use any mods for this, just a modified skin pack to display certain graphics necessary for Pokemon. This makes this achievement even greater.
Mein-MMO says: I still remember how satisfied we were back then on our server when we finally got a railway network with a somewhat automated station up and running. A lot of hours were invested in that alone. It is therefore hard to imagine how much work it must be to completely recreate another game using Minecraft’s rules; even the size of the necessary Redstone setup seems unimaginable to me. In any case, it is a very impressive achievement, even if the game is not fully functional yet.
