In the Pokémon game series, there are many challenges that trainers can undertake. While some trainers focus on battling and improving their teams, others engage in Nuzlocke or Randomizer challenges, where they play the games with different rules or Pokémon than the originals.
Challenges in which trainers obtain all content of a game are also now being completed by trainers.
One of the most time-consuming and difficult challenges has now been completed by a trainer from Reddit. This is a challenge that he claims to have been working on for 15 years.
15 years and tens of thousands of hours of gameplay
What kind of challenge is it? As shown by the trainer on Reddit, he has built a so-called Living Dex
entirely out of shiny Pokémon. A Living Dex is about possessing all Pokémon with all their evolutionary stages.
The uniqueness of his Living Dex lies in the fact that all Pokémon are Shinys. Shinys appear with a fairly low chance, making collecting these variants more challenging.
Consequently, collecting a single specific shiny specimen can be quite drawn-out. Collecting all Pokémon and their evolutions as Shiny is a huge task that requires a lot of time.

How long did it take him? According to him, the trainer has been playing Pokémon for 23 years. He started collecting shiny Pokémon with the 4th generation, which was released in Japan in 2006 and in the rest of the world in 2007 and 2008 for the Nintendo DS.
To complete this special Pokédex, he has invested several tens of thousands of hours across the main series games and Pokémon GO.
Where does he store the collection? The trainer stores his Living Dex on Pokémon HOME. The service offers the ability to transfer monsters between the various Pokémon games on the Switch. Pokémon from older Nintendo DS titles and Pokémon GO can also be transferred to HOME, but not back.
Which Pokémon are missing for the trainer? According to him, he is still missing some forms of Pokémon that he is still working on. Also, Shiny Manaphy is missing from the trainer’s collection. This is because it is incredibly difficult and time-consuming to obtain this Pokémon as shiny.
The trainer PuppeteerGaming_ comments that you can only receive one Manaphy egg per Pokémon Ranger cartridge. If you trade this egg to a 4th generation game, it depends on the ID of the game whether Manaphy hatches as shiny or not. Therefore, it could require many new game saves before a shiny Manaphy appears this way.
