The Pokémon MMO Temtem has now officially gotten a publisher. A partnership with the publisher Humble Bundle has now been officially confirmed.
What it is about: The Spanish development team Crema has introduced Humble Bundle as the publisher for their monster-collecting game Temtem. In the game, you catch monsters in the wild and let them battle against other monsters. The principle is reminiscent of Pokémon, only implemented as an MMO.
Temtem launched on Kickstarter in May 2018 and raised over $570,000. Until now, there was never any mention of a publisher, which makes the announcement somewhat surprising.
The full release is scheduled for May 2020.
Why now with a publisher? On their Kickstarter page, the developers themselves provide an answer:
“Developing games is a big and challenging task. There are so many things to consider during development, and a team of our size cannot handle them all.
We love pure game development, but there are so many other things to keep in mind, such as marketing, merchandise, contact with sellers and their platforms, or reaching out to streamers. That’s why we decided to choose Humble Bundle as our publisher.”
What does this mean for Temtem? The publisher will relieve the developers in some crucial aspects, such as marketing, and will intensify these efforts. This way, the actual development work on the game can be better focused by the developers.
In the long term, Temtem should benefit as a product in terms of quality and popularity.

Concerns within the community: The still small community of Temtem has received the announcement with surprise, but overall positively. However, there were two points that have caused players some concern.
On one hand, some players expressed worries about having issues with the planned Steam version. Humble Bundle can indeed be seen as a competitor to Steam as a distribution platform.
As a justification, the short-term temporary exclusivity of Metro Exodus in the Epic Store was cited.
On the other hand, the announcement was somewhat surprising and sudden for some fans. In light of failed Kickstarter projects, doubts were raised – although it is hoped that something like this won’t happen with Temtem.
Developer Crema has already addressed these concerns and explicitly confirmed the Steam version. Development is proceeding as planned.

This is Humble Bundle: The company became known for its eponymous sales of game collections at special prices.
Since 2017, Humble Bundle has also been offering cross-platform services as a publisher of game titles.
