A new Safari Zone for Pokémon GO will open in May. This time it will take place in the USA. For us in Europe and in Germany, this could still bring some advantages.
The new Safari Zone will take place from May 8-10 at Fairmount Park, Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, USA). Those who can be there have the opportunity to catch special Pokémon more frequently. But even here in Germany, the Safari Zone could bring something.
Shiny Voltorb also in Germany? During the Safari Zone in Philadelphia, a Shiny Voltorb will be available for the first time. It is blue and white instead of the usual red and white.

In the past, new shinies from the Safari Zones were also available worldwide:
- Pinsir from the Safari Zone in Tainan, Taiwan
- Psyduck from the Safari Zone in Porto Alegre, Brazil
- Pottrott from the Safari Zone in Singapore
It is therefore likely that Voltorb will also be available as shiny in all other regions.
Other Pokémon and possible new entry
These Pokémon will still be catchable: In addition to Voltorb, there will be some other monsters appearing in Fairmount Park:
- Minccino
- Unown P
- Alolan Sandshrew
- Bronzor
- Rufflet
Apparently, Niantic is pursuing a theme with the Pokémon, as they all primarily feature the colors white, blue, or red – the colors of the American flag.
Rufflet as a new addition? The Pokémon Rufflet will be available for the first time ever in Pokémon GO. It is possible that this will also be available as a reward for everyone.
However, it is also likely that Rufflet and its evolution Washakwil will only be catchable in the USA or certain parts of it, thus becoming regional Pokémon.

This assumption comes from the fact that Washakwil represents an eagle, one of the national symbols of the USA. Even its name stands for “eagle” (“washi” from Japanese and “aquila” from Latin both meaning “eagle”). If you want to know more about regional Pokémon, check out our detailed special:
