The worldwide catch challenge in Pokémon GO has started. We show you when the bonuses will be activated and how long they will remain active.
For the past few hours, the worldwide catching competition in Pokémon GO has been running. Every trainer who catches monsters in the wild automatically participates in the event and helps achieve the big goal.
As a special challenge, the team from Niantic has decided that three billion Pokémon should be caught within a few days.
If we succeed in collectively reaching the goal, we can expect great rewards.
Pokémon GO Challenge – The most important information
We compile the most important details:
- The event started on the evening of November 19 and ends on November 26.
- The rewards remain active for a longer duration.
- You have the chance to earn a lot of experience points and stardust.
- To do this, the various goals set by Niantic must be achieved.
- Upon reaching Bronze, Silver, and Gold, there will be additional Pokémon spawns in the wild.
- If we manage to achieve 3 billion Pokémon catches, a special regional Pokémon will be available worldwide.
Global Rewards – When will they be unlocked?
The event is divided into three categories:
- Bronze (500 million Pokémon) will bring double XP, lures lasting six hours, and additional Pokémon spawns. Update – We have reached the first goal.
- Silver (1.5 billion Pokémon) will bring additional double stardust and even more Pokémon spawns alongside the Bronze rewards.
- Gold (3 billion Pokémon) will bring the bonuses mentioned from Silver and Bronze and will additionally unlock Porenta worldwide. In East Asia, where Porenta is already available, Kangama will also appear.
As Niantic explains on Reddit, the rewards will be activated shortly after reaching the milestones (not just at the end of the event).
Current Status of the Catch Challenge
On Twitter, the Pokémon GO team announced an update on the catch challenge. After one day, we have already caught 298,159,864 Pokémon. To achieve the big goal of 3 billion Pokémon, we need to step it up.
- On the morning of November 21, we reached the first goal with over 500 million Pokémon caught.
- On November 22 at 10:14 AM, the Pokémon GO team announced that we have now caught one billion Pokémon.
- The Silver goal is getting closer!
- November 22 – 8:45 PM – More than 1.2 billion Pokémon have now been caught.
- November 23 – 8:10 AM – SILVER! The second goal has been reached.
- November 23 – 8:27 PM – Slowly but surely, we are getting closer to “Gold”.
- November 24 – 7:33 AM – The two billion mark has been crossed!
- November 24 – 8:43 PM – Almost 2.3 billion Pokémon catches.
- November 25 – 6:45 AM – 2.5 billion Pokémon – Not far to go!
- November 25 – 6:41 PM – Now it’s already 2.8 billion catches.
- November 26 – 1:51 AM – DONE! We have Gold – These rewards are now waiting for you.
How long do the event bonuses last?
The rewards will last beyond the event. Niantic states that the bonuses will remain active until December 1, 2017 (10:00 PM). Porenta and Kangama are excluded. The two regional Pokémon are only available for 48 hours after reaching the Gold goal in their new locations in Pokémon GO.
The Bronze rewards with double experience points, extended lures, and more Pokémon spawns should therefore remain active for a long time. We suspect that this goal will already be reached on November 20.
Porenta release worldwide for all players
Porenta and Kangama will be unlocked shortly after reaching the milestone, just like the other bonuses.

How many Pokémon must a trainer catch? Pokémon Counter?
The team from PokémonGOHub estimates that each trainer must catch at least 15 to 22 Pokémon per day to achieve the Gold goal. They assume around 20 million trainers worldwide play daily.
We estimate that there may need to be a few more Pokémon caught per day. However, the rewards from the Bronze goal should provide enough motivation to reach the other goals.
It would be best if Niantic activated a Pokémon counter to keep track of the catch statistics. However, it is questionable whether such a feature will be implemented.
