In Pokémon GO a new season begins and a few attacks are changed. This suddenly makes an old favorite brutally strong.
This is happening in Pokémon GO: In Pokémon GO, the new season “Hidden Gems” started. It not only brings some new spawns or fresh events like the Water Festival, but also a new program for the Battle League.
As part of the Battle League updates, the move pool of some Pokémon will also be adjusted. New attacks are added, some moves become stronger, and some Pokémon simply get a few new attacks in their set.
This includes Tyranitar. It will indeed receive the move “Whirler” in its move pool. And with that, the monster becomes a must-catch for all trainers.
How strong is Tyranitar with Whirler
This is what makes Tyranitar special: Tyranitar is already a quite popular attacker, but with Whirler it gains a new quality. Because with the new attack, it is catapulted to the top of the Dark attackers.
The regular version of Tyranitar now ties with the current top attacker Trikephalo, while the Shadow version of Tyranitar with Whirler even surpasses it, writes Pokémon GO analyst Teban54 (via reddit). In terms of damage per second, the Shadow version is even slightly stronger than the currently unavailable Mega Evolution of Tyranitar itself.
However, you shouldn’t just look at the Shadow version of Tyranitar, as the upcoming Mega Evolution could also turn “normal” Tyranitar into particularly powerful raid attackers.
Here, you just have to wait until the evolution is available. And even if the damage per second will be slightly below that of the Shadow version, the Mega Evolution is more durable and also brings bonuses for the other battling Pokémon in raids.
This will make Tyranitar a damn strong monster in raids that you should add to your team – especially when facing Psychic or Ghost Pokémon. And even as a Rock attacker, it remains a very good option.
You must keep this in mind: To get Shadow Tyranitar, you first need a Shadow Larvitar and must evolve it accordingly – otherwise, you won’t get access. Additionally, it will be necessary to unlearn the move “Frustration” before you can equip Tyranitar with Whirler. Here, some effort is needed.
Mega Tyranitar, meanwhile, won’t appear until July. So, there is still some time left. Nonetheless, it’s already worth starting the search for a powerful Tyranitar that can eventually be leveled up.
By the way, you don’t need a Charged TM for Whirler. You can teach Tyranitar the move with a completely regular TM.
