Which Pokémon is it about? For the GO Fest on July 13 and 14, 2024, the legendary Psychic-type Pokémon Necrozma will celebrate its global debut. On these days, it will appear in Level 5 raids and can be caught by you. Previously, this was only possible at live events in Sendai, Madrid, and New York.
But the Prism Pokémon from Generation 7 has another special feature for you. As it absorbs light, it can change its form through fusion. This will also be possible in Pokémon GO. We have summarized which forms Necrozma actually has, how strong they are, and which one you should ultimately choose.
What forms does Necrozma have and how do you get them?
What forms does Necrozma possess? In addition to its normal form, Necrozma has a total of three additional forms: Dusk Mane, Dawn Wings, and an Ultra form. The latter can be assumed by Necrozma when it has absorbed too much light. However, this will not be available in the game for now, which is why the further article will refer to Necrozma (Dusk Mane) and Necrozma (Dawn Wings).
How can Necrozma change its form? Unlike most other shapeshifters, Necrozma uses the power of other monsters to change its form. As it feeds on light, it draws upon the powers of Solgaleo and Lunala. To do this, it fuses with the respective Pokémon. This is how you obtain the two forms:
- Dusk Mane: Necrozma fuses with Solgaleo
- in addition to the Pokémon, 30 Necrozma candies, 30 Cosmog candies, and 1,000 Solar Fusion energy are required
- Dawn Wings: Necrozma fuses with Lunala
- in addition to the Pokémon, 30 Necrozma candies, 30 Cosmog candies, and 1,000 Lunar Fusion energy are required

Which form is worth it the most?
How strong are Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings? Both the fusion with Solgaleo to Dusk Mane and with Lunala to Dawn Wings make Necrozma a strong Pokémon. Both monsters benefit from high stats:
- Attack: 277
- Defense: 220
- Stamina: 200
Through the fusion with Solgaleo, Necrozma in Dusk Mane additionally contains the Steel type along with the Psychic type, granting it the powerful charged move Steel Beam
. With this, it deals 135 damage in trainer battles and even 230 damage in raids and gym battles. Thus, it ranks among the best Steel attackers in Pokémon GO.
In the Dawn Wings form, Necrozma, on the other hand, utilizes the Psychic and Ghost types. Through its Ghost move Shadow Beam
, it also deals 135 damage in trainer battles and 230 damage in raids and gym battles. This makes it one of the best Ghost attackers in the game in combination with its fast move Dark Claw
.
Even in the Master League of PvP battles, Necrozma (Dawn Wings) can score well and secures 7th place with a moveset consisting of Dark Claw, Dark Aura, and Shadow Beam in the PvPoke ranking. This makes it slightly better than Necrozma (Dusk Mane), which only ranks 15th here. However, both forms can also be used as solid Psychic attackers in raids.
Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings – Which form is better?
Which form should you choose? Both forms of Necrozma have strong stats and movesets and are also among the best attackers in Pokémon GO. Your choice should therefore depend mainly on what you want to do with the respective form.
If you need a strong Steel attacker for your raid team, you should go for Necrozma (Dusk Mane). For use in the GO Battle League or as a Ghost attacker for raids, you should rather choose Necrozma (Dawn Wings).
What you need to consider: In your choice, you should also consider that there are relatively few legendary raid bosses that have a weakness to Steel attacks. Additionally, Necrozma (Dusk Mane) is vulnerable to many types like Ground, Ghost, Fire, and Dark, which weakens it in battle.
In contrast, Necrozma (Dawn Wings) only has weaknesses against Ghost and Dark attacks. For this reason, you have better chances of keeping it in battle longer, especially in the GO Battle League.
So if you don’t have a clear idea of what you ultimately want to do with the form, you can’t go wrong with Necrozma (Dawn Wings), as you can use it both as a good attacker in raids and as a strong contender in the GO Battle League.
