Since Team Rocket has been attacking various PokéStops, Crypto-Pokémon are now also in Pokémon GO. We show you how to find and redeem them and tell you how strong they actually are.
These are Crypto-Pokémon: This type of Pokémon can now be found in Pokémon GO. They are monsters whose hearts have been closed, making them evil.
You can then redeem Crypto-Pokémon, making them stronger and giving them better IVs.
Everything you need to know about Crypto-Pokémon
How to obtain Crypto-Pokémon: These monsters can currently only be obtained through encounters with Team GO Rocket. After defeating the Grunt, you will receive Premier Balls, similar to a raid, and can catch a Crypto-Pokémon.
This is always a Pokémon that the Rocket Grunt has fought beforehand.
What can Crypto-Pokémon do? These Pokémon are rather useless in their state. They know the move “Frustration,” which is quite bad.
Additionally, they cost more Stardust when leveling up. So it’s not worth leveling up a Crypto-Pokémon.
How to redeem Crypto-Pokémon: Every Crypto-Pokémon can also be redeemed. This costs 2000 Stardust and 2 candies of the respective Pokémon. However, there are some exceptions, such as Snorlax.
What happens to redeemed Pokémon? These Pokémon have 3 special features:
- Every stat of the Pokémon increases by 2 points
- The redeemed Pokémon is guaranteed to be at level 25
- It learns the charged move “Redeemer”
Additionally, redeemed Pokémon cost fewer candies when evolving and less Stardust and candies when leveling up. You save a lot of resources.

What do I gain from redeeming? You have a chance at a strong Pokémon and save Stardust. It’s definitely worth redeeming every Crypto-Pokémon to hope for good IVs afterwards.
If you have a Crypto-Pokémon with values of 13/13/13, you should definitely redeem it. It will then become a Pokémon with 100% IV.
What types of Crypto-Pokémon are there? There is no exact list for this yet, but there are already reports of Crypto-Pokémon such as Charizard, Blastoise, or Snorlax.
Niantic says players should choose the difficulty of Pokémon GO themselves:
