The frequency of Pidgey, Rattata, and Zubat has been reduced. Hatching eggs in Pokémon GO now yields different results.
Many players know the problem: You walk kilometer after kilometer with eggs in incubators and are excited when one of the eggs finally hatches. Filled with joy, you stare at the screen only to be “rewarded” with a Pidgey or Rattata. These Pokémon appear so frequently as “wild” Pokémon that you don’t feel particularly happy when you get them as rewards from eggs. Now there are changes to the frequency of Pidgey, Rattata, and Zubat, as well as to the contents of the different eggs.
Less Pidgey, more variety
The developers of Pokémon GO have apparently noticed that some players are dissatisfied with hatching eggs. Additionally, some Pokémon appeared too frequently as wild Pokémon. It is likely for these reasons that the following changes have been implemented in the game:
- Players of Pokémon GO will see fewer Rattata, Pidgey, or Zubat. Instead, you should encounter many more other Pokémon.
- Pidgey and Rattata can no longer hatch from eggs.
- Eevee now hatches from 5-kilometer eggs.
With these changes, there will probably be a loud “Finally!” from the player community of Pokémon GO. In the past, players have really seen enough of Pidgey and Rattata or Zubat, making these Pokémon more of a disappointment than a joy. Although a good use has been found for the many Pidgeys.
Patrick says: These changes are a very important step for Pokémon GO. Of course, there have to be Pokémon that appear more frequently than others. This makes the rarer Pokémon even more valuable. On the other hand, the high number of Zubat, Pidgey, or Rattata was really hard to bear, which is why players were often annoyed when these Pokémon appeared on the screen. On the other hand, you could quickly earn experience points if you caught many of them. It seems that Niantic has been strongly responding to the needs of players lately. Perhaps the player-versus-player system is not that far away anymore.
