Over 4600 people participated in our survey about Pokémon GO and shared how much money they spend on the mobile game. We will show you the results, reasoning, and discussions here.
What is it about? Pokémon GO is essentially a free mobile game that anyone can download and start playing right away. Now, nearly 5 years after its release, we want to know how much money you have already spent in the game. Because even though the base game is free, there are many ways to invest.
You participated diligently in our survey and voted on how significant your expenses are.

What do you spend money on in Pokémon GO?
These are the options: In Pokémon GO, you can buy tickets for events in the real world for real money, outside of Corona. You also have the option to invest your money in the in-game currency PokéCoins. With the coins, you can purchase items such as backpack or Pokémon storage expansions, balls, lucky eggs for more XP, and more.
You can earn coins in the game, but there is a daily limit. It goes faster if you invest money.
There are always smaller “1-€ events”. These can only be purchased for real money and not unlocked with coins. This gives you access to special research and associated rewards.
This is what you say about it: Here in the comments on MeinMMO, you shared your opinions.
- Zavarius writes (via MeinMMO): “4x €25 since 2016. Items & Pokemon storage were the main reasons. They won’t get more from me… No matter how much they try to ‘manipulate’ the egg and catch rates of new Pokémon (catch rate deliberately reduced for these, confirmed).”
- Hauhart writes (via MeinMMO): “Over €1000. Then came the PoGo Fest 2020 and since then, after that and other disasters, spent 0 cents, I won’t support this anymore.”
- erzi222 writes (via MeinMMO): “I have invested about €2, but only because I had already earned something through the Google Play survey and could buy the PokéCoins for €11 (?). I won’t invest anything in an outfit like Niantic otherwise!”
- Wolve in the Wall writes (via MeinMMO): “Honestly, I have no idea, but I would guess not more than €300 (since launch 2016). However, since the Go Fest 2020, I haven’t spent a single euro more, as I’m just massively disappointed by this scam. I haven’t even played since late 2020.”
In our Facebook group, 144 people commented on the survey (via Facebook.com):
- Anja E. writes: “I spend about €50 per month on it. I love the game, and I am very happy to support Niantic with my money, even if not everything goes smoothly. For me, it’s a win-win situation. No one is forcing me. Just be tolerant and let everyone live as they see fit!”
- Svenja P. writes: “Over the years, I spent maybe €200, of which 50% were financed with the Google survey app.”
- Andreas H. writes: “About €30 to €40 per month, my girlfriend spends a bit less.”
- Pascal Z. writes: “€100-300 per month goes for raiding and hatching.”
- Tobias K. writes: “€0.00 and I’ve been playing since day one with breaks.”
- Jan P. writes: “I buy 2,500 or 5,200 coins monthly, additionally, a free raid pass daily and the €0.99 ticket every month for Community Day. Ticket for the Kanto Tour €13. I estimate about €30 on average, still receiving 50 coins daily.”
What do you think about the results of our survey? Are you surprised, and would you have expected a different result in first place, or does it match what you had in mind?
