In Pokémon GO the big Kanto Tour takes place in February 2021. For this, you can buy a ticket in the shop for 11.99 euros. We will tell you whether the purchase is worth it and what you get for it.
This is the Kanto Tour: This event was announced back in December 2020 and is all about Generation 1. All monsters from Gen 1 are expected to appear as Shiny. This means that 7 new Shinies will be unlocked in the game.
When purchasing the ticket, you choose between two versions, each allowing different Pokémon to spawn in the wild. If you want to have all Pokémon, you must trade with friends.
The Kanto Tour can be described as a small GO Fest, focusing solely on the first generation.
This is what you get at the Kanto Tour
When does the Kanto Tour take place? The event takes place on February 20th and runs from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. You can take advantage of the Kanto Tour all day long.
These are the exact contents: To give you an overview of the Kanto Tour, we show you here all the contents that are already known:
- You can choose between the red and green edition when purchasing the ticket – depending on the edition, different Pokémon will appear at the event.
- There is an exclusive special research that will lead you to another series of tasks, which in turn offers Shiny Mew as a reward.
- All 150 Pokémon from the first generation are available as Shiny.
- All 150 Pokémon from the first generation can be found in the wild or through raids, incense, quests, or evolution.
- There are more candies for catching Pokémon from the Kanto region.
How do the editions differ? Depending on the edition, there are exclusive Pokémon that will be attracted by incense. These monsters are not available in the other edition. Additionally, the Shiny chance for certain Pokémon is increased.
We will provide you with a detailed overview of the spawns and increased Shiny chances:
- Red Edition:
- Rettan, Myrapla, Menki, Fukano, Sichlor, and Elektek will appear more frequently in the incense.
- Bisasam, Glumanda, Schiggy, Taubsi, Rettan, Pikachu, Nidoran ♀, Myrapla, Digda, Menki, Fukano, Ponita, Muschas, Traumato, Krabby, Kicklee, Schlurp, Sichlor, Elektek, Evoli, Kabuto, and Dratini have an increased Shiny chance.
- Green Edition:
- Sandan, Vulpix, Mauzi, Knofensa, Magmar, and Pinsir will appear more frequently in the incense.
- Bisasam, Glumanda, Schiggy, Taubsi, Pikachu, Sandan, Nidoran ♂, Vulpix, Mauzi, Enton, Knofensa, Kleinstein, Owei, Nockchan, Smogon, Tangela, Seeper, Magmar, Pinsir, Evoli, Amonitas, and Dratini have an increased Shiny chance.
You should base your decision for the edition on where you need more Shinies. Both editions feature Kicklee or Nockchan as a Shiny that has not been available before.
Is there anything without the ticket? If you don’t want to spend 12 euros, you can still benefit partially from the Kanto Tour.
Some Pokémon from the first generation will also appear more frequently for players without a ticket. Additionally, on that day, Arktos, Zapdos, Lavados, and Mewtwo will be available in Level 5 raids for all players, so you don’t need a ticket for this either.
Moreover, a limited-time research will be made available for all trainers, and the trading radius will be increased to 40 kilometers.
Do you need a ticket for the Kanto Tour?
This speaks for the ticket purchase: The hope for a lot of Shinies will probably motivate most trainers to buy. Niantic promises improved Shiny rates and also many new Shinies. This sounds promising, and those who like to collect Shinies will benefit from it.
Additionally, there will be a new special research and access to Shiny Mew. It is still unclear whether Shiny Mew will appear again afterwards. Those who don’t want to miss it should take the opportunity.
Together with the special research, there will also be items that are certainly worth several euros. So if you are spending money on the game anyway, you will likely buy the items sooner or later. Here you essentially get them as a reward for purchasing the ticket.
This speaks against the ticket purchase: The uncertainty about the actual Shiny rates might discourage the ticket purchase. There was already loud criticism during the GO Fest 2020, as players without tickets sometimes caught even more Shinies than trainers with tickets. Whether there will be a significant difference between buyers and non-buyers this time remains questionable.
The strongest Pokémon from the first generation, Mewtwo, is available for all players. Otherwise, the Kanto region hardly has any really strong Pokémon that can only be obtained more frequently through ticket purchase. Dratini is nice, for example, but has now become just an alternative among dragon attackers.
So should you buy the ticket? Those who enjoy collecting Shinies will not go wrong with the purchase. There will surely be several Shinies collected by the end of the day.
If you’re not particularly interested in Shinies, you can skip the ticket, as there are also bonuses that are unlocked without a ticket.
However, the numerous events taking place in January are free. We will give you an overview of that:
