What event is it about? Every year, Pokémon GO celebrates the Day of Love with a multi-day event. So in 2023 you can look forward to a Valentine’s Day event again. During this time, there will be plenty of theme-related monsters available in the game and there will be some bonuses. The following highlights await you:
- Mega-Gardevoir will be available for the first time
- Shiny debut of Quabbel and Kapu-Fala

When does the Valentine’s Day event run? The event around Valentine’s Day starts on February 08, 2023, at 10:00 AM local time and runs until February 14, 2023, at 8:00 PM local time.
Mega-Gardevoir makes its debut in the game
One of the highlights of this year’s Valentine’s Day event is the debut of Mega-Gardevoir. Gardevoir, the evolution of Trasla, comes from the 3rd game generation and belongs to the types Psychic and Fairy.
It can especially score with high attack values, which is why it is among the best attackers in Pokémon GO. Its Mega Evolution is even a bit stronger and ranks among the best Mega Pokémon of the Fairy type.
You can encounter the Pokémon for the first time in Mega Raids during the event and secure the corresponding Mega Energy there.
By the way: If you also evolve Kirlia to Gardevoir or Galagladi during the event, you will secure the event attack Synchronoise. This deals 80 damage in Trainer battles, Gym battles, and Raids.
New Shinys for the Valentine’s Day event
Quabbel: In addition to Mega-Gardevoir, you can also look forward to new Shiny Pokémon during the Valentine’s Day event. Quabbel (male and female) will celebrate its Shiny debut in the game.
Kapu-Fala: Another Shiny debut is the legendary Psychic and Fairy Pokémon Kapu-Fala. The guardian of the Alola island Akala will be found in level 5 raids. You can recognize the shiny specimen by its black color.
Coiffwaff (Heartcut): And also the heartcut form of Coiffwaff is active during this time. You can change your Coiffwaff’s form in exchange for 25 Coiffwaff candies and 10,000 stardust. Since you can now find Coiffwaff in its shiny form, you can also secure a shiny Coiffwaff with Heartcut for the first time.

This is what to expect from the global challenge: The global challenge for Valentine’s Day runs from February 07, 2023, at 9 PM to February 15, 2023, at 7:00 AM. During this time, you must work together with all trainers worldwide to achieve the following goal:
- Goal: send a total of 100,000,000 gifts to friends together
- Reward until the end of the event:
- 3x candies when sending Pokémon
- double XL candies when sending Pokémon for trainers from level 31
Research Day with Liebiskus
What kind of day is it? During the Valentine’s Day event, you can look forward to a mini-event in the form of a research day with Liebiskus. The heart-shaped water Pokémon is the focus of this day and can be caught from research tasks. If you are lucky, you might even encounter a shiny.
When does the research day run? The research day with Liebiskus runs on February 11, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
How to get the research tasks? To secure the limited research tasks for Liebiskus, you must spin the photo discs of your PokéStops during the event period. The respective quests will then reveal encounters with the little monster.
