Getting Top TMs in Pokémon GO is not that easy. If you succeed, you should carefully consider which Pokémon to use them on.
What are Top TMs? In Pokémon GO, there are 2 types of Top TMs. On one hand, there is the Top Fast TM and on the other hand, the Top Charge TM.
Unlike regular TMs, with Top TMs you can not only choose which move your Pokémon will learn, but even access attacks that your Pokémon can no longer learn with a regular TM.
These are exclusive moves from past events that were only available for a limited time or under other specific conditions.
Since Top TMs in Pokémon GO are very rare and hard to obtain, you should carefully consider which Pokémon you use them on. There are Pokémon for which the investment is particularly worthwhile. The focus here is on Pokémon that you can use in raids and arenas.
Best use Top Charge TMs on these Pokémon
Which Pokémon benefit the most from a Charge TM? There are 4 Pokémon where using Top Charge TMs is particularly beneficial. They gain the most from the new moves and can achieve a significant damage bonus as a result.
You should teach the following moves to these Pokémon.
- Proto-Groudon: Abyss Blade
- Proto-Kyogre: Origin Wave
- Shadow Metagross: Meteor Mash
- Terrakion: Sacred Sword
The Proto Pokémon receive a good to very good damage boost from their respective moves. Shadow Metagross leads the list of the best attackers in Pokémon GO of the Steel type, and Terrakion is only outclassed as a Fighting attacker by Mega Evolutions.
If you have these Pokémon without the corresponding moves, using a Charge TM is most worthwhile here.
What else is a Charge TM worth? There are more Pokémon where using a Charge TM is also worthwhile, but not nearly as much as with the previous ones.
If you have leftover Charge TMs and don’t know what to use them for, you can consider using them on the following Pokémon.
- Shadow Mewtwo: Psychic Fangs
- Mega Charizard Y: Blast Burn
- Mega Sceptile: Leaf Storm
- Reshiram: Fusion Flare
- Shadow Zapdos: Sky Attack
- Shadow Rhydon: Rock Wrecker
- Shadow Garchomp: Earth Power
Notably in this list is Shadow Zapdos, which has no other Charge moves of the Flying type. If you want to use this Pokémon as a Flying attacker, you’ll need to use a Top Charge TM for that.
Best use Top Fast TMs on these Pokémon
The selection of Pokémon for raids that greatly benefit from a Top Fast TM is significantly shorter than for Top Charge TMs. If you are active in the battle league, you should consider using Top Fast TMs here to enhance your Pokémon.
However, these Pokémon could also benefit from using a Top Fast TM in raids:
- Mega and Shadow Tyranitar: Smack Down
- Xerneas: Geokontrol
The two Tyranitar forms have no other Fast moves of the Rock type than Smack Down. If you want to use your Tyranitar as a Rock attacker, you cannot avoid using a Top Fast TM.
Instead of Mega Tyranitar, you can also use Mega Diancie. This Pokémon is stronger as a Rock attacker and has been made available for all trainers through a special research.
The same goes for Xerneas. This Pokémon has no Fast move of the Fairy type other than Geokontrol.
