In the latest update of Pokémon GO, data miners found 5 special research tasks that trainers can complete during the Kanto Tour and afterwards. This includes new quests, outfits, and features.
What is it about? The group of Pokéminers has been investigating the latest updates of Pokémon GO for a long time. The data miners closely examine the game’s code to determine which contents are now new. On the evening of February 11, 2021, many contents for the Kanto Tour were added, which will likely be expected soon.

1: Players as NPCs during the Kanto Tour
What is it? A few weeks ago, Pokémon GO held a competition. Players were to form a team of 3 Kanto Pokémon and set a motto for it. The best ideas would be implemented by the developers in the game, activating the trainers as computer-controlled opponents (NPCs) during the Kanto Tour.
The names of the winners were found in the update. Among them, the player “DieCurryWurst” was listed twice. The characters even received their own texts which they will say to you during the Kanto Tour when you face them.

2. Kanto Tasks
What is it? Several tasks and quests were found that will be active during the Kanto Tour. The tasks are presumably those listed in today’s overview.
These include tasks such as:
- Evolve Pokémon from the Kanto region
- Catch Pokémon during a specific event hour
- Use incense to attract exclusive Pokémon from the red or green edition
- Obtain Pokémon by trading with friends
- Complete raids against Pokémon from the Kanto region
3. 5 special research tasks for the Kanto Tour
What is it? As you may know from larger events in Pokémon GO, there will be special research tasks that you can solve. It seems that Niantic places a lot of value on this, as the data miners found 5 researches, each divided into at least 4 chapters.
The adventure of a trainer: This research consists of 8 chapters. The texts from Professor Willow and related tasks are not yet known.
Kanto Tour Research: This research is supposed to focus specifically on the Kanto Tour. It is divided into 8 chapters, like the trainer research.
Limited research for the Kanto Tour: In this research, you are supposed to defeat all challenger NPCs. So presumably the trainers who won the competition on Twitter and are in the game as NPCs for the event. The research is divided into 4 chapters.
The masterpiece research: Pokémon GO has already announced that you will receive another research after the research about Shiny Mew. The masterpiece research. According to data miners, this research is divided into 4 chapters.
Old Sea Map: This research is divided into 4 chapters. From the name, it can be concluded that it is likely related to Mew.
4. New Field Research / Quests
What is it? For several years now, you have been receiving quests when spinning photo discs that you should complete. In line with the Kanto Tour, several new quests have now been found in the code. These are tasks such as:
- Evolve Bulbasaur/Charmander
- Catch Oddish/meowth/sandshrew/Vulpix/ekans/Aipom
- Hatch X eggs
- Take a snapshot of Pokémon
- Send X Pokémon of the type Bug/Dark/Dragon/Electric/Fighting/Fire/Flying/Grass/Ground/Ice/Normal/Poison/Psychic/Rock/Steel/Water
- Spin X Stops or Gyms
- Walk X kilometers
5. New Clothing
What kind of clothing? The code found hints about new face masks belonging to the types Grass, Water or Fire.
Additionally, there are new hats/caps/barrets, pants, tops, shirts, and jackets. These are partially themed around Mew, Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur.
6. Mass Transfers
What is it? The team of Pokémon GO has already announced that legendary and mythical Pokémon will soon be able to be sent via mass transfer. Until now, one has to click on each individually.
There are also further updates like displaying a warning and how many legendary and mythical Pokémon have been selected.
When this feature will exactly come into action is still unclear.
