With a new update currently rolling out, Niantic aims to improve the quality of Pokémon GO. This is particularly focused on the technical aspects to ensure the game runs better. In the patch notes, we will show you what changes are planned.
The rollout of update 0.83.1 is underway, and the update will gradually be unlocked for all trainers. An exact date for when the update will be available in all stores is not known.
Update 0.83.3 now available for download
Surprisingly, Niantic released version 0.83.3 on top of update 0.83.1. However, data miners found no interesting changes.
It is believed that the Pokémon GO update 0.83.3 is merely a supplement with additional bug fixes.
0.83.1 APK – What’s in the update? Patch notes
As the developers state on the official site, we are finally supposed to receive the promised performance updates. These include the following changes and improvements:
- Support and further optimizations for the resolution of the iPhone X have been added
- Support for devices running iOS 8 will be removed
- A bug was fixed where error messages were displayed until the app was restarted
- Trainers can now upgrade their Pokémon to the maximum WP
- Improved loading times of the Pokémon GO app
- Further bugs have been fixed, and performance has been improved
Niantic actually wanted to deliver a performance update with version 0.81.1 but had to stop it due to too many errors. Afterward, version 0.79.4 was released as a temporary solution.
0.83.1 APK Datamining
The data miners from TheSilphRoad have taken a close look at the new update. No direct changes regarding the 3rd generation were made. Mostly, the update seems to be aimed at improving performance. We show you a summary of the results here:
Unity 2017.1 Upgrade
It seems that the new Pokémon GO version will finally bring an upgrade to Unity 2017.1. In plain language, this means there will be improved performance. This will likely fix some audio issues that existed in older Unity versions.
Improved loading
Sprites of Pokémon are expected to be loaded better and faster due to various optimizations.
Shorter start duration
Starting Pokémon GO should be faster with the new update 0.83.1. Try it out when you have installed the update.
Accidental button triggering
A new function is apparently intended to ensure that buttons are not accidentally triggered. This could be implemented with a delay between double presses. However, no detailed information is available.
New buddy test feature
There appears to be an internal test feature (not for players) that allows different Pokémon to be considered as buddies.
This could be used to “test” the appearance of future Pokémon as buddies to ensure they are not incorrectly incorporated into the game.
New map library
A new data library was found in the APK of update 0.83.1 that makes it easier for developers to manage maps. This functionality has already existed on the server side for a long time. It is still unclear why this is now important for the Pokémon GO client.
Change in battle groups?
In the data of the new update, the line “MaxNumberLocalBattleParties” was also found – indicating the maximum number of local battle groups. The battle groups had previously been found in an earlier data mining but were still called battle teams.
The name change could be a sign that work is still ongoing on this feature. Such battle groups could give us the opportunity to pre-build a team of monsters and save it as a counter-team. This would be a helpful change for raids and general combat in arenas.
