Why the change to battle teams is so important
This is what the community says: One change from the patch notes that is being celebrated on reddit is the battle teams. It has been stated:
- “In my opinion, this is huge”
- “If it actually works, a long-overdue improvement”
- “But I bet that the damage for [Pokémon with] two charge attacks is still calculated as average, so the best attacker has less weight than one with just one charge attack.”
- “And goodbye, Shuckle”
What makes this change so good: If you join a raid to defeat a raid boss alone or with a group of other trainers, Pokémon GO first suggests a “recommended team” for this scenario. For this, the game searches your Pokémon collection and places attackers in your 6 slots that it deems “good”.
Unfortunately, this selection in the past included some pretty bad Pokémon and good ones were ignored or weighted less. Thus, the game often suggests Shuckle as an attacker. Why Shuckle is almost always a bad choice in Pokémon GO.
Especially beginners and casual players often don’t know better and rely on this pre-selection by the game. As a result, open groups that include casuals and beginners often struggle to deal enough damage. Therefore, if this change is really well implemented, it is significant.
