The new update 0.123.1 for Pokémon GO is currently being rolled out. It includes the 4th generation, new attacks, AR+ mode for Android, a new box, and more.
What is new? Trainers of Pokémon GO are now awaiting the new update with version number 0.123.1. Niantic has published patch notes that explain the content of the update.
Data miners have taken a closer look at the new version and note that many more changes have been made.
Update 0.123.1 – Official Patch Notes
A few days ago, Niantic already explained that Pokémon from the Sinnoh region are on their way to Pokémon GO. The Sinnoh region is closely related to the 4th generation. The new update prepares the game for these new monsters. Niantic states:
- Pokémon that were first discovered in the Sinnoh region are arriving in Pokémon GO
- Friend requests and gift notifications can now be stacked
- Pokémon GO AR+ is now also available for selected Android devices
- You can now select multiple Pokémon at once when assembling a group for a Gym battle or Raid battle
- Various bug fixes and performance updates
What Data Miners Found in the New Update 0.123.1
The data mining experts have searched for further changes in the new update and found the following information:
All 107 Pokémon of the 4th Generation in the Code
According to TheSilphRoad, all 107 Pokémon of the 4th generation and their 107 sound files are now in the code. From Turtwig number 387 to Arceus number 493. This includes 2 cries for Shaymin. This is the mythical Pokémon from Gen. 4 with a Land and a Sky form.
When will the new monsters arrive? When the new Pokémon will be available in the game is still unclear.
In addition, forms for 8 Pokémon have been added:
- Rotom

Note on Crabhammer: the audio file for the attack has been removed according to TheSilphRoad. It must therefore be added with another update before the attack can be used.
A New Box
The data miners found a new box in the code. However, they do not yet know what it is for. It is called “Local Box” and looks like this:
Medal for Gen 4 + Pokédex Tab
In line with the 4th generation, there is also a medal for the Sinnoh region in Pokémon GO. You will probably see it once the first Gen 4 Pokémon are released. In the Pokédex, there is also a new section for the 4th generation.
Technical Changes
AR+ now for Android: With the new update, Android users will also enjoy AR+ technology. It was initially only available for trainers with iOS.
Anti-cheat adjustments: The adjustments are meant to clarify bans and penalties for affected players.
Fixes for Shiny Encounters: Trainers previously complained that the shiny icons sometimes did not appear when they encountered a shiny Pokémon in the wild. This should now be fixed.
Upcoming Features – Speculations
The changes in this section are still unclear. There is speculation about what they could be aimed at.
Changes to Incense: For the incense in Pokémon GO, there are values for how long Pokémon are attracted, how much time elapses between encounters, and so on. Now there are the following values: SpawnTable, SpawnTableProbability, Weight. So it could be that the function of incense is about to change.
Fitness Mode in the Background: In the last update, data miners already found hints of a possible fitness mode. Work has continued on this data. This time in connection with a background mode. So it could be that this feature is soon to be completed.
Hints about the Battle Update: So far, attacks in Pokémon GO were always limited to the numbers 1 and 2. It looked like this:
- Ability1TitleText
- Ability1PowerText
- Ability1TypeIcon
- Ability2TitleText
- Ability2PowerText
- Ability2TypeIcon
In the new update, however, the abilities have been renamed. They now look like this:
- AbilityTitleText
- AbilityPowerText
- AbilityTypeIcon
The numbers 1 and 2 are therefore gone. Here, data miners suspect that Pokémon are no longer necessarily limited to 2 attacks. This could be a hint at the battle update. Everyone is looking forward to Niantic explaining this in more detail.
