As dataminers found out, there have been significant changes in the code of the new update. Changes to EX passes, Ditto, PokéStop submissions, and QR codes indicate that we will soon receive new features.
Gameplay, Technical, and Future of Pokémon GO
Changes are coming: The dataminers from TheSilphRoad have taken a close look at the update and noted many changes. We will categorize these into Gameplay, Technical, and Future so you can more easily track the changes.
Look forward to more encounters with Ditto, QR code entries of friend codes, and the possible sharing of EX raid passes. However, keep in mind that not all features are active. The fact that there are news in the code means that work is being done on it.
Gameplay & Features
Sharing EX passes: Many trainers are still looking for their first Mewtwo from an EX raid. It seems that these trainers will soon be helped. Because now there are possibilities in the code to share EX raid passes. Additionally, options to accept or decline a shared EX pass.
Niantic has yet to announce anything in this direction. So wait and see when the feature comes into effect and how it works. It is unclear whether there will be stardust costs associated with it.
Adding friends with QR code: Adding friends is an important feature for trainers to score gifts. In the future, you won’t have to manually enter your friends’ code, but you can simply copy a QR code to add them.
A great way to make new friendships during real-life events like Community Days.
Ditto as research rewards: Niantic has already announced in the past that Ditto would appear as a reward for field research. However, it hasn’t worked as planned so far. As TheSilphRoad reports, Ditto has now undergone some changes that will likely affect encounters with the creature. So keep your eyes peeled.
Many opponents are looking for an encounter with Ditto, who are working on their Mew research.
Technical – Bug Fixes and Improvements
Updating Unity: Pokémon GO runs on the Unity engine. This has now been updated, and Pokémon GO is now running on a newer version. This has likely resolved many bugs, but there may also be new issues introduced into the game. Trainers report altered shadows and colors in Pokémon.
Redesign of notifications: Many of the notifications in the game have been visually overhauled. When your buddy finds a candy or something happens with friendship levels with other trainers, you should immediately notice the visual changes to these notifications.
Changes to camera and screenshots: Dataminers are uncertain about the implications here. They may serve to scan the mentioned QR codes for friends.
Niantic Kids: The new platform, which aims to give parents more options for privacy settings for children, is taking shape.
Nickname limit for friends: Apparently, there will be a limit on how often you can rename friends. It is suspected that the limit on Pokémon nicknames was only accidentally in the game and actually referred to the friends list, not the monsters. However, this has not yet been confirmed. The limit on Pokémon nicknames has reportedly been lifted.
GO+ improvements: In the code, there are now lines “deviceId” and “lastPgpDeviceCount” in relation to the PokémonGOPlus gadget. It is unclear what these changes mean. They may improve the reconnection with a GO+ on the same device.
Ban reasons: Niantic is making progress with its anti-cheat functionality. The code now features “banReason” – it is unclear whether banned players will receive a detailed reason for their ban, or if this code simply triggers a general text.
Filter for Lucky Pokémon: You can now sort your Pokémon collection by Lucky Pokémon – use the search term “Lucky” (Thanks, Dirk).
Hide catches from friends: In the options of Pokémon GO, you can now set whether your friends can see which monster you caught last or not.
Berry bug is fixed: The berry bug is finally out of the game. Trainers were experiencing crashes when starting Pokémon encounters that had already been fed with a berry.
Scrolling issues fixed: In the last update, many players noticed that the friends list automatically scrolled up after opening gifts. This should now be fixed.
Display for sent gifts: In your friends list, a small symbol will now indicate whether you have sent a gift to that friend on that day.
The Future of Pokémon GO – Submitting Stops?
PokéStop submissions: There have been changes to the feature for submitting PokéStops. The code now includes “SupportingStatement, SupportingImage, and a SignedUrl.” This means that the developers are making significant steps for this feature.
Fans have been waiting a long time to finally submit proposals for PokéStops and Gyms themselves. Currently, this is only possible if you reach a certain level in another Niantic game, Ingress.
New badges for Safari Zone: From August 29 to September 2, the Safari Zone will take place in Yokosuka (Japan). There are new badges in the code for this.
New move Meteor Mash: This exciting discovery came as a surprise. The visual effects for the new move Meteor Mash are now in the code. However, important changes are still needed before the move can be made available in the game. Meteor Mash is a Steel-type attack from Generation 3. Meteor Mash is considered a signature move of Metagross. More precise information about this is not yet available.
