Data miners have made some spectacular discoveries in the code of Pokémon GO through the APK of update 0.111.2. Celebi’s encounter has been found, as well as a few highly interesting new features: Lucky Pokémon and a new berry.
The most important new features at a glance:
- Lucky Pokémon: Lucky Pokémon require less Stardust to level up. An official image from Niantic shows a 50% reduction in cost.
- A new form of Sananaberry discovered: The function of this new berry is still unclear.
- The complete Celebi encounter for the global release.
- New sorting function for the friends list.
- Some fixes and minor features.
But beware: The data has only been found in the code so far. This does not mean that everything will go live immediately once the patch is released.
Lucky Pokémon: Reduced Stardust
Pokémon can be marked as “lucky”: The well-known data miner Chrales has found in the code that “lucky Pokémon” reduce the cost of Stardust. This feature could arrive in Pokémon GO soon, as Chrales has already found these special Pokémon in the Pokédex.
Here’s what the data miners have found out about lucky Pokémon:
- They have their own backgrounds, animations, and camera effects.
- Own entries in the Pokédex, such as: seen or caught.
- Two variables indicating that they are linked to trading:
- .get_TimesLuckyReceived
- .set_TimesLuckyReceived
Stardust costs presumably reduced by half: An image of a “lucky Pokémon” appeared on the official Spanish Twitter of Pokémon GO. Here, a lucky Chansey is shown, which only needs 50% of the usual Stardust for a level-up.
Furthermore, the image also strongly suggests that “lucky Pokémon” will be linked to the trading function. However, this is just a single image, from which only speculations can be drawn.
Celebi is ready for the global release
Celebi has been exclusive so far: The mystical Pokémon could only be caught at the GO Fest 2018. Now trainers are waiting for Celebi to be released worldwide.
The code indicates that Celebi can now come: The data miners have found everything in the code that a Pokémon needs to enter the game:
- Animations
- Camera
- Required environment
- Celebi in the Pokédex
New Sananaberry – More Candies through the Item?
So far, only the image is known: The berry could yield more candies. The data miners suspect that this Sananaberry provides even more candies during encounters. This would fit well with the new lucky Pokémon.
New features like sorting the friends list
There are still some new features in the code that should please trainers:
- Sort friends list and give friends nicknames.
- Gifts can be removed.
- A search function for traded Pokémon.
- Gifts can contain Stardust.
- Two new quest types:
- Add a friend.
- Trade a Pokémon.
Pokémon GO is seemingly becoming more social: If it actually turns out that these new features are linked to trading, Niantic’s goal here is clear: to become even more social. Pokémon GO already has several in-game functions that make it difficult for solo trainers to keep up. For example, larger raids need to be completed with more trainers. Adding friends and trading Pokémon seems to play a more important role in the future, as well as the shared experience.
Preparing for Generation 4? The more Pokémon enter the game, the harder it becomes to strengthen or evolve them. Because you receive the corresponding resources (candies) when catching a certain species. If the silver Sananaberry really provides more candies, this could be a sign that Niantic is gearing up to bring more different species soon. A way to reduce the cost of Stardust would also suggest this.
