A new update for Pokémon GO is currently rolling out and will be gradually released for your devices. The update is version 0.101.0 for Android and 1.71.0 for iOS.
Experts have discovered what has changed in the game’s code upon closer inspection.
Pokémon GO data mining shows new attack, hints on PokéStop submissions
Once a new update for Pokémon GO is out, data miners dive into the new work. For them, this means examining the new game data closely and checking for changes. They then share the results with the community. Here, we show you what the experts from TheSilphRoad found in the new update.
New Field Research Tasks
As you know, field research is divided into different categories. Until now, the goal for raids and gyms was to complete a raid or gym battle. Whether you win or lose was not important.
New are now values that suggest that in the future, you will not only have to complete battles but also win them. These could be the skill-based tasks that Niantic referred to for the new research. They reward you with Zapdos starting in May.
Catapult – New Rock Attack
In the APK of Pokémon GO, a new attack of the Rock type was found. It is a fast move that nine species from Generation 1 to Generation 3 could learn on their own:
- Kleinstein, Georok, Geowaz
- Onix
- Rihorn, Rizeros
- Stahlos
- Anorith and Armaldo
Furthermore, 46 other species can learn this attack through a TM. This includes Despotar. It is still unclear which monsters in Pokémon GO will really learn this attack and when it will be released.
Special Offer Box for Community Day
In past Community Days, Niantic offered offer boxes that could equip you with useful items for the event. Apparently, there will now be a special look for these packages at the community event. Keep an eye out to see if you can spot them at the Community Day in May with Glumanda.
Submitting PokéStops – New Hints for Future Feature?
In previous updates, there were already the first hints that Pokémon GO is planning a feature that will allow players to submit PokéStop suggestions in the future. The latest data mining shows that Niantic is apparently still working on this function. Functions for a photo upload have now appeared in the game’s metadata.
What does this mean for you? Submitting PokéStops currently happens indirectly. Players must reach a minimum level in Niantic’s other game “Ingress” to suggest portals there. Some of those are then converted into PokéStops and gyms.
This is particularly cumbersome, since many Pokémon GO trainers do not want to play another game just to be able to suggest PokéStops. Trainers in rural areas, who have few PokéStops or gyms, have long been looking forward to such a feature in Pokémon GO itself.
The feature is not finished yet. You cannot currently suggest PokéStops in Pokémon GO through the new update. The data mining only shows that this function is still being worked on.
New Filter for Mystic Pokémon
With the new update, it is possible to search for mystic Pokémon in your Pokémon collection in Pokémon GO. This could be a preparation for Niantic to eventually release more mystic monsters as rewards for special research.
Report Weather Issues
A new feature is now active to report incorrect in-game weather. In the past, trainers often complained that the weather in the game did not match the actual weather. With the new feature, you can now report these errors.
What conclusions can we draw from update 0.101.0: The new field research tasks for May are skill-based and clearly relate to the fact that you will have to win battles instead of just participating.
The new fast attack Catapult looks promising – trainers suspect that it could be related to a future Community Day.
We are particularly excited about the work on the POI (Point of Interest) system. For players in rural areas, such a feature would be especially important. The lack of stops and gyms in rural areas has always been a point of criticism in Pokémon GO.
These gyms and stops could also be combined with live maps that fans are now demanding from the Pokémon GO developers.
