The Master Ball lands in Pokémon GO. Trainers are already thinking about what to use it for – and what definitely not to use it for.
This is the Master Ball: As Niantic announced, the Master Ball will be released in Pokémon GO. On May 22, the new item is set to arrive as part of a special research.
The special thing about the ball: It will be able to catch any wild Pokémon with a 100% success rate, whether from raids or from the wild. This makes it one of the best items you can have in the game.
However, the ball will probably only be available on rare occasions. Accordingly, trainers are already considering: Where should we throw this thing?
Trainers clarify: Don’t waste your Master Ball
What should you not use the ball for? As soon as the Master Ball was announced, trainers already warned in the Pokémon GO subreddit: Don’t waste the Master Ball on shiny versions of legendary Pokémon.
The thought: If you find such a rare specimen in the game, you might be tempted to ensure that you catch the monster as safely as possible. But that’s not necessary, as shiny legendaries already have a 100% catch rate. Perhaps not all players, especially newcomers, are aware of this.
This means you don’t need to worry at all when trying to catch such a monster – and certainly don’t waste a Master Ball. Instead, as trainer “pierreo93” suggests, just throw a Razz Berry for double candies and catch the monster with a regular ball (via reddit).
What do trainers want to use the Master Ball for? So far, one type of monster has stood out for which trainers are currently planning to use the ball: The legendary Galar birds (via reddit).
The Galar variants of Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos can be obtained through the daily adventure incense, but just encountering the monsters is incredibly rare. They are hardly to be found.
Moreover, they are very hard to catch if you happen to encounter them. They have an extremely high flee rate, which means if you don’t catch them with the first ball, there’s a high chance they’ll flee from the battle. Then the catching chance is gone.
Accordingly, the rare birds are currently the most popular answer when it comes to what you would use the Master Ball for. However, some trainers speculate that they might also be able to acquire the birds in other ways in the future, such as through raids. But nothing official is known yet.
