In Pokémon GO the GO Fest is celebrated annually, bringing exciting highlight Pokémon. What could we expect this year? Trainers already have ideas.
The GO Fest is probably the biggest event of the year in Pokémon GO. Originally, it took place as a local event in various cities, but now there are also global versions of the event.
Traditionally, the GO Fest always brings a few highlights. For example, in 2020 the release of Crypto-Mewtwo at the GO Fest, in 2021 it brought all the legendary Pokémon available at that time into the raids along with Meloetta, and in 2022 the GO Fest revolved around the Ultra Beasts.
Accordingly, trainers are already looking forward to summer 2023. Even though nothing has been officially announced yet, players already have ideas about which monsters could possibly be the highlight.
Where is Mega-Mewtwo in Pokémon GO?
What ideas do trainers have? In the Pokémon GO subreddit, a user named “Pigroee3DS” unearthed an old graphic of Pokémon GO. It was released for the 5th anniversary of the game and showed various monsters like the Gen 7 starters and other Pokémon that are already in the game, along with Mega-Mewtwo X.
Not only that: a year prior, a graphic was released for the 4th anniversary, hiding Mega-Mewtwo Y among other Pokémon. Here, too, many monsters are visible that are currently in the game – except for Mega-Mewtwo Y and, right next to it, Mega-Lucario. At that time, Mega Evolutions did not even exist in the game.
In the comments, trainers discuss how strange it is that these monsters have been hinted at for so long but have not appeared to this day.
A trainer speculates that it might finally happen this summer. After all, very strong monsters like the Proto-Monsters Groudon and Kyogre have been released this year.
This could also pave the way for powerful monsters like Mega-Mewtwo: “After we received the Protos for the Hoenn tour, I wouldn’t be surprised if one or both Mega-Mewtwos appeared at the GO Fest this year,” says the user (via reddit): But that’s purely speculation on my part.
Other trainers are also engaging in speculation. One points out that Mega-Lucario should not be forgotten, as it has not been introduced yet. Additionally, some trainers mention that at least regular Lucario is visible in the current loading screen of the Rising Heroes season in Pokémon GO. Another jokes that he would expect Mega-Mewtwo, if at all, as a boss in the elite raids (via reddit). Another says: “I suspect that Mewtwo X and Y will be the last Mega Evolutions they release” (via reddit).
At the same time, trainers emphasize that one should not rely too heavily on these graphics – after all, some Pokémon from the birthday graphics have simply not played a role so far (via reddit).
Another option is being brought up by trainers with another Mega Evolution – namely Mega-Rayquaza (via reddit). This would also be an option and first hints about Rayquaza have already emerged in recent months.
From a story perspective, it would also fit: Given that the Hoenn tour revolved largely around Rayquaza’s rivals Proto-Groudon and Proto-Kyogre, completing the trio would be suitable for the GO Fest.
However, as it stands, we can only speculate. There is currently no official information about the GO Fest 2023.
